Chapter Two

Alexander’s POV

“Do I really need to go?” I glared at my mother across the breakfast table and she completely ignores me as she continued to swan around the kitchen, pretending to look busy and also so she didn’t have to deal with my whining.

“Yes Alexander, now stop huffing and go put your grey suit on, we will be leaving soon” I roll my eyes and finish stuffing the last of my cornflakes in my mouth. I hated going to these things, pretending to be royal family of the humans when in fact we were the royals of the largest wolf pack in Europe.

I knew why they wanted me to go, I was eighteen almost nineteen and still had not found my mate, yet Max still had not found his and didn’t need to come to these things because he was helping in the pack hospital. I roll my eyes as I walk up the stairs, there was nothing worse than paying a visit to an all girls school.

All they did was scream and cry to try and get my attention, I remember one time a girl throwing her underwear at me, it was mortifying to be put in that situation. I knew I would find my mate when the time was right.

I decide not to shave, there was only a small amount of stubble, but I style my hair and dress in a grey suit with a black tie and black shoes, my mother must have had one of the omegas polish my shoes, they had not been this shiny in a while. I know she was trying to be helpful, but did girls really notice these things.

Making my way back down the stairs my Father was already dressed in a grey suit to match mine whilst my mother wore an off shoulder, floor length gown in a royal blue colour. “See you do scrub up well” My mother was beaming at me but honestly I hated these suits, they made me feel like I was being constricted.

“Are there actually any wolves at this school?” I was curious why they were so desperate for me to go

“Not that we are certain of son!” My dad was helping my mother put on a coat

“So why am I going if there are no wolves?”

“Well Alexander, you never know when one might pop up, it also gives us the chance to scout for any packs, make acquaintances. It’s not always about you honey”

“You’re using me?” I glare at my mother.

“It’s not using you if you find your mate” she was so irritating sometimes and I wish Max was forced to come to these things too at least it would be more interesting.

The pretence that we were someone famous to the humans use to be fun but over the last five or so years it had become boring, the same thing happened again and again with me, the girls just didn’t know they were smelling my pheromones and that was why they were acting crazy.

Mother was becoming desperate for me to meet someone, I could never understand why, it wasn’t like I was the next Alpha in line was it beacuse that would be Max, considering he was older. I climbed into the Limousine that was being driven by my dad’s Beta, even he was dressed up as a driver to keep up the charade.

“This could be the time” My mother could no longer contain her excitement

“Calm down dear, you always end up disappointed if it doesn’t happen” At least my father was more relaxed about it and he gave me a knowing wink.

The drive was long and I found myself scrolling through social media, nothing exciting as usual, soon the trees turned to a town, with buildings everywhere, I could not understand how people livid like this, I liked to be free and out in the open.

The drive seemed to go on and on and for once I was grateful my mother had brought snacks, my stomach had been rumbling for ages. My dads Beta shouts through the window, announcing that we were nearly there and I groan, stuffing the rest of the ham sandwich in my mouth and wiping the crumbs off my suit.

I sighed and rolled my eyes, I had already picked up on the excited screams at least thirty minutes ago, having a great sense of hearing will do that. “Stop rolling your eyes Alexander” Mother was tutting at me again. We finally come to a stop and as the door opens a scent hit me, something sweet, almost floral like. It was like nothing I had smelt before and was intoxicating. The Headmistress introduces herself to us, whilst other teachers were trying to keep the girls back.

Making an excuse, I ask where the toilets were and disappear in the direction the headmistress points which happens to be the same direction as the alluring smell. Walking straight past the toilets and following my nose, I enter the library, an odd place to find someone when it was lunch time and when everyone else was outside practically drooling over me.

Opening the door and stepping in the large library, the smell grew stronger, my mate was definitely nearby. Books filled the room, stretching from the floor to the ceiling, so my mate is a bookworm, I can live with that.

Moving through the aisles, following the scent. I finally catch a glimpse of her, she is sitting at the very back at a small study table, fiddling with the headphones on her head. Her black hair was tied up on the top of her head with some tendrils of hair trying to escape, a deep green turtleneck covered her skin and she had pulled the sleeves down so they were stretched over her hands. A glimpse of her cheek showed her skin to have an off white colour, she looked ill.

She didn’t even seem to realise that I was there, could she not scent our mate bond, maybe she was yet to reach eighteen years of age. I watch as this girl slams her headphones down on the table “All for a guy” and she sits back on her chair. I couldn’t help but laugh to myself, she was more annoyed with the situation than I was.

“Excuse me”
