Chapter 25

I pushed Nikolai away just as the chandelier fell down with a loud crash. I felt a few shards of glass pierce my forearms but the pain didn't register immediately as I wanted to make sure Nikolai was alright.

“Are you fine? Did the glass touch you?" I asked worriedly. Nikolai looked stunned but quickly recovered as a fierce look came on his face. He half my wrists with one hand and used the other to caress my forehead. Then he brought the hand to eye level.

“You're the one who's injured yet you care so much about how I'm feeling," Nikolai said, a look I couldn't identify passing his eyes. He examined my hand and thankfully, the cuts weren't too deep. He picked out the shards of glass then beckoned one of his guards over.

"Keep her safe and take her to the clinic," He said then turned around without saying another word. The guard stepped aside allowing me pass through but I lingered a bit. Where was he going? He climbed the stairs with clenched fists and soon disappeared from my sight
