Chapter 6: Two mates?

Dr. Blat finished his healing magic having Freya looking almost brand new. Her internal bleeding was fixed, and he even took out the metal pins that I couldn’t get when she got hit with a metal net a year ago. The guys wanted to ask questions but they were in enough trouble so they kept their mouths shut.

“So two mates? I have heard of a few powerful magical beings have a few mates, but it is rare.” Dr. Blat finally commented looking at me curiously. “I bet when your powers are unlocked fully you will be one of the strongest here. I wonder if you will have more mates?”

“No!” We all shouted in return.

The guys pulled Dr. Blat aside to talk but I wasn’t interested in their conversation. It was either about what to do about multiple mates or something about me. I was more interested in Freya who had begun to wake up.

I slid my hand down her spine dragging my nails like she liked. Her body stretched getting all the kinks out before relaxing against me. She was so fluffy the weight of her fur almost knocked me over but I was ready. Past experiences of her leaning or laying on me had taught me how to brace myself.

‘You know your not a lap dog, right?’ I teased her.

‘You like it and you know it.’ She replied slowly opening her eyes. ‘I feel great. That doc is aces in my book.’

I sniffled letting the tears caress my cheeks. ‘I am so glad you are ok. Never do that again. I just… can’t.’

‘Promise.’

“Hey! Earth to Emmersyn!” Ajax shouted. “Were you just having a silent conversation with your dog?” He looked a bit freaked out.

“No. We can talk via a link. We just have this really awesome bond.”

Dr. Blat’s head turned toward us so fast I thought it was going to fly off. “It can’t be. Oh my… I have to get things prepared…” With that he ran off.

We all just stared at the door for a beat. Good to know everyone here was weird. Hopefully I get better explanations from my so-called grandpa.

We got all checked out with Freya refusing to be carried. They kept arguing as I kept my mouth shut. I didn’t even know how long I would be here so who was I to judge if Ajax didn’t want a mate or if Jarek refused to be without his. Neither of them were fond of sharing even if they were best friends since the age of six.

We finally got out of the clinic and I was so glad to have some fresh air. Freya was running circles around us already back to her regular self.

"Your grandfather is waiting in his office for us." Ajax pointed to the tallest building, his body stiff and voice stale. "We will walk you there but after that you are on your own. We have other things to do today including figuring out why a human like you would deserve us as mates. Just know if you run there is no where we can't find you on these grounds. Just know the dungeons only get cleaned every few months and each have a hole in the ground to do your business in."

"In other words, it smells like complete shit and you think I couldn't handle it." I stopped in my tracks and turned around to face them both. "Let me make something clear. I can and will find a way off this property if I feel like it. There isn't a damn thing you can do about it. Now how about you shut up until you get me where I need to go. After that let's pretend we don't exist to each other, k?" I tilted my head giving them a fake smile before turning back around to keep walking to the building they had pointed to.

‘He is starting to be an even bigger douche. I wonder if Jarek is letting it happen because he agrees or he wants Ajax to dig himself into a hole while he thinks he will be my only mate.’ I looked at Freya and she shook her head.

'I could take off one of their limbs.' Freya stated giving a few quick looks at their legs. 'They look a bit muscular to even taste good but I bet there are plenty of monsters in need of some food.'

I laughed bending over holding my stomach.  'I will keep that in mind. And I will make sure to get you some food as soon as I can.'

When she got hungry it wasn't good for anyone. She either got really bitchy and scared the pants off everyone for the hell of it or she took out the nearest prey she could find. One too many times I woke up to pieces of different animals in our shack with her just saying they got mouthy with her. Likely story.

The guys followed my advice and didn't speak until we reached the double doors leading to my so-called grandfather’s office. They continued to be quiet, but I could feel their assessing gaze on me every time they turned their head. Jarek seemed a bit sad like a little puppy who wasn’t getting the attention he needed, and Ajax seemed indifferent until you looked into his eyes. His eyes read that he was scared but I didn’t know what.

“I am sorry.” Jarek said, keeping his voice low. “I do hope you stay and I can get to know you. It would mean a lot to me.”

Ajax ripped the door open and walked in leaving us along. “I can’t make any promises but if I stay I will do my best to be open to the situation.”

Jarek smiled. “I’ll take it.” He opened the door holding open for me. "Ladies first."

Freya snickered. 'He called you a lady. He is in for a huge surprise.'

'No doubt.' I replied and walked in giving him a nod.
