Ch.4: Separating us is your first mistake.

The portal took us to an empty gravel road in the middle of a forest filled with all sorts of beautiful trees that I had never seen on the human plane. Some had silver leaves while others trunks were deep red with pink leaves and those were just the ones that stood out near the gate.

"Keep walking. We are behind schedule." Jarek grumbled putting his hand on my lower back and pulling me with him. "There is only three entrances to the school. This is the most used one since it brings you closest to the school and takes you straight to the universal portal so you can head home on leave and such."

I nodded my head and did my best to keep up with them. Both of them had longer legs than I did so my stride was more of a jog. Neither seemed to notice I was struggling.

The school came into sight and it looked like a regular human university with a few tall brick buildings, a huge sports field, and a few different dorms. Dorms that I would have to share with another female unless they were co-ed which meant I would have to deal with a smelly man who would want me to act like his mommy. I saw that enough when one of the girls back home moved a guy into their tent. I broke up one too many fights dealing with that crap.

"I will drop your dog off at the doctor’s office. They know we are coming." Ajax stated lifting Freya into a more comfortable position. "and Jarek will take you to meet you grandpa."

I stopped, staring at them both with a blank stare. "Whoever gave you the idea that I would willing be separated from Freya especially since she is injured? I’ll go with her and when she is better I will pencil in this so called gramps I have."

"No, that is not how we have it planned out." Jarek argued making a grab for my arm but missing as I yanked it out of range.

Slipping my hand down to my pockets my hand found my pocketknife.  I pulled it out and flipped it open close enough to be able to draw blood for either of them regardless of if one held my baby. This wouldn’t be my first time drawing blood nor the last.

"Size isn't always a factor. Knowing where to make you bleed out the fastest with the smallest of cuts has always been better knowledge for myself.” I seethed at them begging of them to screw up and get closer. “Or how to make the bleeding take hours but the pain be so excruciating that you will beg for me to finish you off.”

"OK, ok. Calm down. We will all go to the doctors. We can decide what happens after getting Freya fixed up." Ajax pushed past us picking up his pace keeping a few feet of distance between us.

I did my best to keep up with him but enough distance so I didn't run into him or touch him at all. That weird feeling from earlier had already sent my head into a freak out. After spending most evenings trading or working at the supernatural black market I heard a lot of gossip and sups talk. The only thing that came close to explaining that feeling and my brain feeling cloudy or foggy was something called mates. After the few stories I heard I knew I never wanted one so this was a whole new territory. Maybe I was wrong. He wasn't trying to get in my pants or order me around like the stories suggested.

"Open the door, please." Ajax had stopped keeping his eyes on the closed double doors.

"Whoops, my bad." Moving around him careful not to touch him I opened the doors and kept my pace with his as we passed several doors and what looked like nurses.

The building was starch white with green and red being the main colors used for signs, maps, and such. It seemed they treated every kind of supernatural there was if I went. We rushed passed a half shifted dragon with a bloody towel around their arms, a witch with boils down her arm, and a vampire girl complaining about something to do with green slimey stuff on her after a run in with another student.

We finally reached the last set of doors but this time they were open with two workers waiting for us. They took Freya from Ajax and went inside without a word. The doors shut behind them quicker than I had anticipated and locked behind them.

Yanking on the door handles without them budging I could feel my anger and frustration from being separated rising. It didn’t rise and make me rage out instead it flowed to my core giving me this weird swirly feeling in the pit of my stomach. It pushed power throughout my body making each time I yanked easier and easier.

"Hey, calm down. They know what they are doing." Jarek stated worriedly before pointing at the seat next to me. "Take a load off and wait."

"No!" I yanked on the door again. "Somebody better open this damn door before I break it down!"

The door swung open almost throwing me on my ass. It revealed a green, thin goblin dressed in an almost too big doctor’s jacket. His coat was covering most of the floor behind him as he held the door open with a smile. He looked a bit like a cartoon frog with the big white teeth and long chicken legs.

"Hello, Emersyn. Let's get you back to your girl." He waved his head toward the door opening. "I am Dr. Blat. Maybe you can help us keep her calm. She has been giving my nurses a run for their money."

It didn't take any more convincing to trust him before I was running to the back listening for my bestie. 'Freya! Howl for me buddy.'
