Over my déad body

CHASE POV

I glared around the opening and sniffed the air. Several scents surrounded the murky air, but I couldn't think of the one that had hurt my Alisson.

My Allison?

I was being possessive. I couldn't help it. But it makes me feel good.

I moved to her side, and she stood up straight abruptly.

"Stay away from me!" Allison shouted.

For someone that was hurt, she could still use her leg.

Allison swatted a stake with her into the air and gritted her teeth while pointing the stake at me.

I shook my head slightly, urging her to keep calm, but I doubted she understood what I meant.

Regardless, I stood at a distance staring at her until she staggered forward.

I rushed towards her but stopped as a werewolf jumped into the opening.

"I'm powerful!" Allison slurred. Almost immediately, she fell face flat to the ground.

Shifting my gaze from her, I furrowed my brows as I turned to the werewolf before me.

It wasn't a werewolf; I realised it was a werejaguar.

Usually, werewolf species had different scents, and I could tell what rank each was and prepare to fight them off if they were intruders. But right now, I had no warning whatsoever.

Had I lost my sense of smell too?

No, impossible!

I had sniffed out Allison. If I had lost my sense of smell, there was no way I'd have gotten to her.

Although I know what it means to lose my sense of smell, I'd be able to shift and all, but I'd be like a human, or even worst, since humans could perceive smell.

The werejaguar bared its teeth at me and jogged towards me.

I let it get close enough to me, and I growled.

The werejaguar backed away and turned on its heel.

I knew how to chase off attackers without putting up too much of a fight. After all, I was an Alpha. No one dares contend with me.

Yet, I knew if the strongest of the enemy came at me, I wouldn't be able to put up much fight. I was powerless, and there was only too much my growl could do.

I changed into my human form after ensuring Alisson was knocked out cold and the werejaguar and any other intruders weren't in sight.

I picked Allison up from the ground and carried her bridal style before running towards my pack house.

.

.

I was awoken in the middle of the night by a scream. I dashed through the door and sprinted towards the room I prepared for Allison to stay in until she was good enough to leave.

I rammed into her as soon as I burst into the room, and my hands shot out to steady her.

"Chase?" Allison's eyes widened, and I furrowed my brows.

My eyes wandered around the room, searching for an intruder, and then back to her face as I saw nothing. "What happened?"

"Why am I here, and who changed me into this?!" She screeched, shoving at my chest.

But I didn't release my grip on her.

Allison scowled. "Did you touch me?!"

Releasing my hold on her, I stepped towards the window, heaved a breath, and pinched the bridge of my nostrils. I had assumed she was in danger. I didn't know she was merely throwing a tantrum about who changed her.

Also, I doubted I could resist not coming to see her as my wolf was always alert, knowing she was in a room opposite mine. I had used all my willpower not to sleep in the same room as her. Ajax had wanted me to. Ajax had never acted this hypersexual. Ever since he knew we were mated, he had wanted me to do weird things to Allison. Things I never thought of.

"I did change...." I began, but she cut me off.

"How could you?!" Allison shouted. "You freaking pervert!" Then she attempted to run towards me, but she stumbled.

I guess she had forgotten her leg was injured.

Swiftly, I caught her midway and stared at her. "How about you calm the fúck down rather than act like a little girl?!"

"A little girl?!" Allison sneered. "I should calm the fúck down when you change me without my permission? I should calm the fúck down when it's obvious you must have taken advantage of me?"

"I'll rather visit a brothel than take advantage of a sleeping woman. Besides, not as if I hadn't had access to you..."

"Fúck you!" She cussed, slapping my chest.

I winced, chuckling. "You already did."

Although it sounded absurd, I like how it made her calm somewhat. I saw a hint of blush on her cheeks, and she glared at me fiercely.

I gripped her hand, preventing any more hits from her. Despite how small she was, her hits packed a punch.

But she shrugged my hand away and limped towards the door. "I shouldn't be here. I need to leave."

"Where exactly were you going?" I asked, hoping I'd get an answer as to the reason she was in the forest at the time of the night.

"It's none of your business." She mumbled.

"It is..."

Allison swirled and glared at me. "The fact we had something before doesn't mean you have the right to know everything about me. Like I said before, it's over between us, and I don't need to report my movement to you!"

I didn't imagine our conversation as challenging as this, but I presumed it was what she wanted.

Somehow I felt she was trying to run away from me. I doubted it was due to the breakup. I could see it in her eyes. Something was bothering her. Something she wasn't ready to let me on.

"I have every right to be bothered about your well-being, seeing as you can be my potential mate."

Allison snorted. "Mate? Over my dead body, should I ever be mated with a Werewolf like you! I'd rather die first than result to being mated with a fúcking philanderer!"
