Chapter 10.
~Malia~ James, Alex, Lydia, and I were sitting in the common area. Nobody else was there and we weren't doing anything particular. In fact, everyone sat in silence. The air around us was heavy, thick, and tense. I wanted to speak up but I knew that James was pissed about the events that occurred out in the woods. Both with the rogues but also my impromptu shifting and almost killing his mate.   I waited. I sat there, completely still in my spot. The air grew thicker and I knew it was only a matter of time before I opened my mouth. I wanted him to go first. I didn't want to disrespect him.    ”You can speak, you know,” my rampage of thoughts broke as James spoke. I shifted my gaze, looking at everyone else.  I let out a heavy sigh and straightened my back.  ”I’

Chapter 11.
She fell to the ground, a cloud of dust rising around us as she did.  Her eyes were closing but before they did, five wolves were raised into the air and their necks were snapped.  Two others flew onto the trees before falling down unconscious. Another four were backing away, whining with their heads down.    The noises got lesser and lesser and Stella fought to keep her eyes open.    The wolves that were backing away were whining loudly as every bone in their body broke. They were shifting back, slowly, painfully. They were being tortured. Several others had escaped but those that were left were in agony. They shifted back, screaming in their human forms as they turned and

Chapter 12.
~Malia~ I and Avery were in the car. The plan was to track down Amber and make sure she was okay. After a long fight between James and Avery he finally surrendered, on one condition, that three of the packs warriors came with us, which was why we were being followed by a black SUV.    ”Can you hear her?” Avery asked me as we drove down a lonesome road. She was squinting as the rain poured down and it was near imposible to see the road. Lucky for us, not many people were out driving right now. ”No,” my voice was shaking. Never in my life had I been so worried. It was a dreadful feeling to have.  Avery groaned and kept driving. I gripped the handle on the door and looked between the trusty driver and the road. She was going very fast for how the weather was right now. We could barley see the road but I didn’t want her to slow dow

Chapter 13.
~Avery~ I went on to tell James everything that Selene had told me and by the end of it, he didn't say a word. His jaw was clenched tightly and his fingers tightened on my waist.   ”Please say something,” I asked quietly as I placed a hand on his cheek.  He leaned into my touch and I breathed out in relief. ”Was that what happened earlier, was that Xena and you syncing?”  I nodded my head.  ”Somewhat, it wasn't all of it,” I thought about it for a moment before continuing. ”In fact, I don’t think that was even a smidge of what awaits,” I didn't know whether to cry or laugh. I nearly hurt a lot of people tonight and thinking that this could happen again brought back some dark memories. I had already hurt Mal

Chapter 14.
~Amber~ ”Who?” My voice came out hard and confident. My anger was stirring up inside. ”You’re uncle. Carlos Knight. He was the one that turned your mate.”    A shot of pain. The stab of a knife. My insides were burning and Stella was scratching the surface. Both of us on the hinge of insanity.   ”He turned my mate? He hated them so much that he turned an innocent girl and forced war upon our kind for decades?” I was standing. My hands were balled up into fists and my voice came out in a threatening growl.  But then, as I was about to blow up, William started laughing hysterically. He bent over in laughter and dried his tear-stained eyes with the back of his hand.  ”He didn't turn the girl in spite you fool. He saved the girl. He couldn't bring himself

Chapter 15.
~Avery~ James came and sat down next to me. I was too ashamed to look him in the eyes so instead, I looked down at my hands fidgeting nervously together.    ”Hey,” he placed his hand on top of mine and used his other to lift and turn my head so that I was forced to watch him. ”Why haven't you told me?” I sighed and tried removing my chin from his grip but it only tightened.  ”Because I know how important this is for you. For all of you. I didn't mean to sound like an ungrateful bitch but it’s just,” I was trying to find the right words but I didn't think that was possible. ”So much else is going on and this ceremony is last on my list of things to care about. We have a war coming, James. How am I supposed to put on a dress and walk up on that podium with you, all the while knowing that our friends, family,

Chapter 16.
~Avery~ ”Sorry, first things first- hey sis, are you on speed?” Amber stopped and glared at Alex who had asked the question. Her eyes were huge and she shook her head.  Alex narrowed his eyes on her.  ”Answer with words, please,” he said slowly. ”No, I'm not on speed. I just drank a really yummy tea,” she said giddily and rolled her eyes at her brother. But then everyone's focus went back to James.   Alex came over and looked at the scratch on his brother's shoulder and then up at his brother. ”It’s not healing,”  ”It’s fine,” James tried to sound confident. ”James, you’re an Alpha and that mutt out there was a non-rank, low life, garbage eating rogue wolf. This should've been healed already.” Alex was getting frustrated, his tone was lowering and h

Chapter 17.
~Avery~ I was walking around the packhouse, looking for Amber when I spotted her outside on the patio, sitting on the sun deck.    ”Hey there,” I sat down beside her and watched as she twirled what looked like a knife in her hands.  My eyes were stuck on the handle, a beautifully hand-carved piece of what I believed was oak. The circular lines along the shaft looked almost like veins as they parted and came together in different places. ”What’s that?”  She handed it to me, her finger gracing the faintest sign of an imprinted heart on the wooden handle.  ”It was my dad's, it was his favorite knife, he always had it on him. One day for his birthday I had taken it and burnt in a heart, telling him that how ’now I wou

Chapter 18.
~Avery~ When I looked back, I saw everyone sound asleep, what made my heart stop for a second, was that I saw myself asleep too. I was laying next to Alex, his arm wrapped around my shoulders like a shield, my chest rising and falling with every breath.   The ball of light floated deeper and deeper into the forest the closer I got and I followed closely behind. When I looked back, I couldn't see the fire pit nor the packhouse, I was far into the forest. I knew this place and I knew how to navigate through it yet a weird feeling surged through my veins as the ball of light stopped. It was floating in front my face as though it tried to communicate, I reached out my hand, and when my fingers met with the light, it grew into the size of a person. I stepped back, trying to reach out to Xena but I couldn’t, she wasn't there.   I gasped in shock, a puff of smoke leaving my mouth when I saw the light melting off into pools
