My eyes widen, not believing who I have in front of me. Automatically, Mia switches to fight mode and, upon seeing him, roars with all her might in my head, deafening me.

I stayed for a few seconds in a state of massive shock, unable to articulate a single word.

Albert, seeing that I say nothing, shows his discomfort in his body language, placing his hands in front of him. A faint sweat shines on his forehead and there is only regret in his eyes.

I sigh, close my eyes and say, “What are you doing here, Albert? I don’t think we have anything to talk about,” I muttered. The tension between us is palpable. Walking past him and sitting in my chair, behind my desk, I lean well against the backrest while I cross my legs.

“We have a lot to talk about, Emma. There are a lot of things you don’t know that now put you and Maddie in danger.”

I frowned and gestured for him to take a seat. I clear my throat and say, “What do you have to tell me?”
