A dinner with James

CHAPTER FIVE

Alex held his phone tightly in his hands without making any attempt to pick it up until it stopped ringing. I thought that he was just being childish and ridiculous, shook my head, and walked away.

My phone began to vibrate. It was James. My heart sank again, but I smiled. It was pay back time.

I picked up the call and placed the phone beside my ear and turned towards the chair to see if Alex could see me.

I gasped when I didn't see him there. Rather, I felt him behind me.

"You just got married, and you are sleeping around already. Why didn't you save your father's business that way?"

I hurried away from him.

"Thanks for flashing me, miss world," James teased me, and I blushed.

I turned around and saw Alex seated on his spot again.

"It's my pleasure," I replied loudly, making the smile even more broad.

"I wanted to make sure you got home safely. "

"Of course, I did get home safely," I increased my tone. "Thank you so much for checking up on me."

Alex rolled his eyes and leaned on the couch. He was probably not concerned about whatever I did with James behind the scenes as he had said.

Maybe he truly only cared about his company.

"I hope that we can eat lunch together tomorrow," James offered.

"Of course," I replied.

"The restaurant close to your company," he informed me.

I agreed nonchalantly, and he ended the call after thanking me.

I stood by the stairs and fixed my eyes on Alex. He was still as calm and charming as he was five years ago. The same man I married, who seemed so gentle towards everything.

I wondered what it would feel like to have him in my pants. He would be as tender and as gentle as he was right now.

Alexander didn't spare me another glance. His eyes were fixed on his phone. He seemed to be doing something very serious with the way he was sweating and the seriousness on his face.

I sighed deeply and walked up the stairs without sparing him another glance.

I walked in the beat way that I could, hoping that for a second, he would turn around to stare at me.

I got to work feeling very tired and hungry. I didn't eat dinner the previous night because I was avoiding another fight with Alex.

I also left the house very early in the morning to avoid any encounter with him.

"Ma'am. Here is your coffee," my secretary informed, placing the cup of coffee on my table.

I was carried away that I didn't even see her walk in.

"Thanks."

She walked away, and I sat down to drink the coffee. After having the coffee, I pulled out some documents from my drawer.

I suddenly remembered the agreement to eat lunch with James and my heart sank. The hunger in my stomach would not let me think about anything else but lunch.

I needed someone like James Whites to build my company back to its feet. So, I had to put up with him until I got what I wanted.

A soft knock came on my door, and the door slightly went open. My secretary pushed her head in.

"Your meeting is in two minutes, ma'am," she informed me.

I nodded and waved her off. I stood up and walked towards my fridge. I grabbed a bottle of fruit juice and gulped it down. I walked into the bathroom to wash my face and reapply my makeup.

I grabbed my file and walked out of my office.

When I walked into the meeting room, the board members and shareholders were already seated and waiting patiently for me.

After all the greetings and formalities, the meeting started properly. Everyone seemed to be talking about asking my husband for support.

"Raymond did wrong by duping his own company. He would never go unpunished. The same company that placed him on salary for eleven years," Mr Clement cursed.

"He was our most trusted financial personnel. That was the reason Mr. Grande made him the financial manager. Not up to two years, he became greedy."

I was getting bored already.

"Thankfully, our CEO married a billionaire. She could easily ask him for support. And we would get the company back on her feet," Mr's Roseline suggested.

"We also saw her with James Whites," one of them said.

Others who weren't aware of the picture that circulated gasped. I forced a shy smile.

"With James Whites, we wouldn't lose this company. "

While walking towards the restaurant to have lunch with James. I became more desperate than determined to work things out with the company.

When I walked in, I didn't struggle to find James. He was dressed in all white, and the table he booked was not crowded around it. I knew he owned the white limousine with guards around it.

I walked towards him, and he came to me with his hands spread for a hug. I shook him and pretended I didn't know that he wanted a hug instead.

He grabbed a seat and pulled it out for me to sit.

"Thank you, " I appreciated him.

He nodded.

"I ordered samosa with spring rolls for us," he told me.

"Appetisers?" I asked him.

He shook his head.

"Main dish, of course."

The waiters soon arrived with his order. He also ordered that they served him the most expensive wine. I gulped when I heard a million dollars.

I thought it would have been best for him to invest that money in my company. It would go a long way.

"You look even prettier every other day," he praised me.

I just couldn't help whenever I got compliments. My lips broke into a smile.

"Sir," I called and was about to continue when he lifted his hands.

His brows were squeezed into a frown.

"James!" He corrected.

I nodded and pushed some documents to his side.

"I want to pitch some business ideas to you. Maybe your company would be ready to invest."

He bit from his snack and placed the remains on the plate. I was a bit uncomfortable because I woudlnr survive if I ate just this.

I texted Julie to buy me some food and drop it on my table while I waited for him to finish chewing so he could attend to me.

"Tricky, right?" He asked as he fixed his gaze on my face. "You skipped the name. "

I forced a tight lip smile.

"A beautiful princess like you do not need to pitch their ideas to me. I would invest, even though it's a merry go round you want to build in your company. "

I giggled, and he winked at me.

"People like you should not even walk on the bare floor, " he teased me.

I found myself laughing so hard.

"You should be carried," he continued. "If you were mine, I wouldn't even let people see you. Only the thought of other men staring at you would break my heart."

I knew I wouldnt be able to pitch my idea to James today, while we ate. We chatted and I laughed really hard. He leaned forward and fixed his gaze on mine. I narrowed my eyes, waiting for hon to speak.

"I thought you looked better when you have dust in your eyes. That was because I hadn't seen you laugh this way."

"Oh, my!" I exclaimed with my hands placed on my chest.

James was cute and funny. He made my heart flutter. I wished that Alex would say all of this to me.

At the thought of Alex, he appeared in front of me, and my heart sank into my stomach.

Why was he here?
