Chapter 5

"Are you going to run away again?" A voice spoke right beside Kathilyn's ear. She then jumped out of surprise, not knowing when Isaac came into the room.

"W-when did you get here?" Kathilyn asked, stuttering since she was baffled about how he could be there without her awareness.

"Since you were ignoring me," Isaac answered, smirking at her. He then turned the chair so that she would face him and leaned closer.

"W-what do you mean ignoring?" Kathilyn asked, her face slightly red as Isaac's face is so close to her that he can feel his warm breath on her skin.

"Why are your face red?" Isaac moved closer, his face was only an inch away from Kathilyn. She couldn't help but her face grew redder as time passed.

"I-It's not red." She pushed Isaac away and walked away to avoid the awkward situation, but Isaac was faster. He grabbed Kathilyn's wrist and pulled her towards him, his other hand wrapped around her waist.

"Where are you going, little miss?" Isaac whispered into her ear, his breath tickled her earlobe and made her shiver to her spine.

She looked around to make sure that no one saw her with the famous son of the owner of

He then brushed her hair away from her neck, revealing a cut. He touched the wound, causing Kathilyn to wince in pain.

"Oh, does it hurt? You act like a tough girl, but can't even handle a little cut." Isaac spoke and before Kathilyn could say anything, he sat her back on the chair. Then, he took a handkerchief out of his pocket.

"I'm not going to ask how you got this cut since I believe you would say something like "I just fell in the toilet" or "I just grazed on something"." He rolled his eyes and tied the handkerchief around her neck.

"Are you flirting with me? Because I would never fall for you." Kathilyn avoided eye contact with him and pushed his hand away.

"For fucking sake, can you stay put? You're not a little kid to act like a brat." He held both of her hands on the wrist with his other hand to stop her from moving and used his mouth to tie the handkerchief wrapped around her neck.

Kathilyn blushed even harder, feeling his breath on her jaw. She looked away so that he wouldn't see her obvious reaction.

"What flirting? I'm just trying to be kind, even towards someone who left me at my wedding." Isaac purposefully tapped lightly on her wound that was wrapped with the cloth, making her wince in pain.

"That hurts, you know!" Kathilyn glared at Isaac as if she was sulking. He then leaned closer toward Kathilyn in an intimidating manner.

"Remember, I will never forget about that and I will make sure that you will be paid the same amount of embarrassment I had." He warned her, and then his phone rang from inside his pocket

As he was answering the call, Kathilyn took the opportunity to run away from him. She quickly got up from the chair and ran as fast as she could away from him.

"What the heck is wrong with him? Is he a psycho or what?" She shook her head in disapproval as she walked fast. When she got home, she locked the door, bathed, threw herself on her bed, and fell asleep.

She suddenly woke up in the middle of the night in a familiar room which was not hers. She looked around the room and her eyes landed on a plushie toy that she had in her childhood.

"This room..." She whispered to herself, holding back her tears when suddenly she heard a commotion outside her room. Suddenly, she heard the sound of a gunshot outside of her room and quickly ran out to see her parents lying lifelessly on the ground in a pool of blood.

"Mom! Dad!" She screamed and ran towards her parents. She kneeled in front of them and broke into tears as she desperately shook their body so that they would wake up.

"Mom, Dad! Please wake up!" She yelled at the top of her lungs with her tears streaming down her face. Just then, her mom's hand weakly reached out towards Kathilyn's cheek, her thumb gently rubbing against her skin to wipe her tears.

"Don't cry, sweetheart. Things will be better soon, trust me." She spoke, her voice trembling as if she was going to slip away soon. That was the first time in 15 years that she felt her mom's touch and love.

Kathilyn nuzzled her face into the warmth of her mom's hand, and without saying any words her dad held her other hand. She closed her eyes to savor the moment and when she opened her eyes again, she was on her bed and it was already morning.

"That was... A dream?"  She sobbed hard, curling herself on the bed while recalling the moment. She knew that her parents would never be back and that was probably the last time she would meet them.

Suddenly, her phone rang and she picked her phone up to see the name of her best friend, Benjamin who also worked at the same company as her. She quickly wiped her tears and calmed herself down.

"Hello, Ben? What's up?" Kathilyn asked, hiding her trembling voice.

"Kathy, where are you? The boss kept asking why you were late and he's really mad right now." Benjamin spoke through the phone, Kathilyn's eyes became wide out of shock.

"Wait, what day is it today?" Kathilyn asked, being confused. At that moment, she had forgotten all about her dream and she was worried about her work.

"Did you forget? It's Monday. I told our boss that you were having massive diarrhea so you would come to the office late. When you're here, act like you just exploded in the bathroom. He's coming, I gotta go." Benjamin then hung up the phone.

"Why diarrhea out of every excuse in the world? This is such a pain." She sighed heavily. She then got ready to go to work and when she arrived, she pretended to be all weak and sick.
