Chapter 2

Just as the masked man was about to pull the trigger, his handgun was knocked away and it crashed on the wall, shattering to pieces.

“Retreat!” He shouted, running away with his two other men following behind him. Right after, a few other masked men who seemed to be their enemy rushed towards them and chased them.

After seeing the men disappear, Kathilyn’s vision turned dark. Opening her eyes, she looked around to find herself suddenly tied up on a chair. The room was dimly lit with a single candle on the table before her.

"You're awake now, princess?" A husky and deep voice spoke, sitting on a chair in front of Kathilyn with his legs crossed. She raised her head to see the man with a black mask who saved her before.

"W-who are you? Where am I?" Kathilyn stuttered in fear, her whole body was practically trembling. The air felt cold as the menacing stare of the masked man that Kathilyn could feel through his mask.

"There's no need to know who I am, darling. Just be a good girl and answer my questions, then nothing will happen to you." The man spoke again softly, standing up and walking toward Kathilyn.

"w-what question? Please let me go." Kathilyn still trembled in fear, the man stood up and took out his handgun from the back of his pants, and ran it along Kathilyn's jaw.

"Tell me... Are you a spy? Be honest with me." The man paused and spoke again.

"If I catch you lying, then... your life wouldn't matter to me." He moved his face closer towards Kathilyn.

"What do you mean? What spy? Just let me go, damn it!" Kathilyn yelled out of frustration while trying to free herself from being tied, mumbling under her breath.

"My life is hard enough, stop making it harder than it already is." She mumbled, looking away. She was really scared, but she pretended to not bother with hi.

"Shut up. I don't want to hear about your pathetic life." The man spoke, annoyed with her attitude. He moved his face away from her and sat back in his seat, crossing his legs.

"You shut up. You ugly bastard. You must be so ugly that you're wearing that ugly mask. Even your personality is ugly. No one would want to marry someone like you." Kathilyn stuck her tongue out toward the man.

Despite her attitude, her heart was beating so fast that she could hardly breath.

"I said shut up." The man said sternly, raising one of his eyebrows. Just as Kathilyn was done untying the rope on her hand, she pointed behind the man.

"Look, it's the police!” The man only sat there, not even amused at her attempt to trick him.

“I’m not that stupid, young lady.” He said as if he already knew that nothing was behind him.

"Shit. Oh, there's a rat!" She pointed down the floor to trick him when there was no rat.

"Fuck! W-where? Where is it?" The man jumped and climbed on the table out of fear.

Kathilyn quickly scrambled and ran as fast as she could out of the shabby room and away from the abandoned building. She kept running until she arrived at a bus stop that was crowded with people and took a bus to meet her fiance.

"I'm saved... I didn't think I would manage to leave. They wouldn't chase me here, right?" She breathed out in relief and finally stayed calm

She then arrived at CyberTech, a company owned by the Cambridge family. She was greeted by a beautiful lady with a neat and formal outfit who seemed to be an employee.

"Yes, miss? Is there anything we can help you with?" The lady asked gently and calmly.

"I'm here to meet Isaac Cambridge. Is he here?" Kathilyn asked politely.

"Oh, are you Miss Sydney Danville? Young mister Cambridge is not here at the moment, may I show you his office if you could wait for him to arrive?" The lady walked towards the elevator and Kathilyn followed suit.

As they both were inside the elevator, the lady pressed a button to the 10th floor. The elevator moved up while Kathilyn felt sick to her stomach, feeling nervous about meeting her fiance, Isaac Cambridge.

The elevator arrived at the 10th floor with a 'ding' and they both walked out after the door slid open. The lady led Kathilyn through the building towards Isaac's office while showing her around.

"So, this is his office. You can wait for him here, if anything you can contact customer service by pressing 5 on the phone." The lady spoke and left, closing the door behind her.

Kathilyn then sat on a sofa inside the office room and sighed as she was waiting for Isaac. One hour passed by, and she slowly drifted to sleep.

"Why are you sleeping here? Wake up." Kathilyn heard a deep and husky voice right beside her ears. She opened her eyes to see a man's face right in front of her and she jumped out of surprise.

"Who are you? Why are you sleeping here?" Isaac asked, walking towards his desk and he sat on his seat, sipping on his warm coffee that he brought with him.

"I'm Sydney Danville. Sorry, I was too sleepy." Kathilyn answered and sat upright. Isaac looked at her and raised his eyebrow in disapproval.

"So, you're Sydney Danvulle. Why are you here at this time of night? Weren't you supposed to come see me in the afternoon? And what's with that ugly dress? It's so outdated." He asked, clicking his tongue.

'What do I say now? Will he even believe me if I said that I got kidnapped and ran away? He must think that I'm a naive person.' Kathilyn thought.

"W-well, something came up..." She answered, looking away to avoid any questions further.

Two months have passed, and it's their wedding day. Kathilyn was wearing her wedding dress and ready to get married, she stayed in her room contemplating.

"What do I do? I don't want to marry him… Should I just flee?" She said to herself, pacing around the room.

At the wedding altar, Isaac was waiting for Kathilyn to come. He looked at the watch on his wrist, three hours had passed but Kathilyn was not there yet. All the guests were whispering to each other and reporters were taking pictures of him.

"Where is she?" Isaac's dad, Lucas Cambridge whispered to him.
