CHAPTER FIVE: Bound by Regret

EMILY

Helena lead me to the Alpha King's study, while chatted telling me about the pack events happening in the evening I was thinking about why the alpha king summoned me and what will happen, will he reject me once again or send me out?

I pretend to listen to Helena as I tried to call out my wolf, since I woke up I haven’t heard from her, she hasn’t said or word though I can feel her presence, I can feel her pain but she shut me out from feeling any other thing.

Finally, we arrived in front of a room which I assume was the alphas study, Helena ushered me inside and left as she closed the door, I bowed my head immediately not bothering to see where I was or see my mate's face.

“I see you're feeling better now,” My mate said breaking the silence in the room

Not knowing what to say cause I muttered yes, obviously did not feel better It can’t take me a day or two to forget about my mate who rejected me, a mate I have been waiting for all my life.

“That’s good then I guess I can send you back to your alpha,” He replied causing me to immediately look up. I can’t go back to my pack I would be dealt with for leaving the ball and also entering another pack territory

“No please you don’t need to send me back I’ll kindly leave,” I answered immediately, my heart beating so fast cause of how scared i was

“Why? You should go back to your pack,” he said as he stood up from the chair which made me to bow my head once more but before I could answer he started talking again.

“Look at me when I’m talking, this is one of the reasons I rejected you, how can you be my queen and Luna when you can’t be in a room with an alpha without being confident? ” He said while taking a step and moving closer to me.

I looked up to answer but I met his eyes, those very blue eyes I fell in love with immediately I saw them, he looked right at my eyes and for a moment I saw love and admiration in his eyes. Wanting to say what I had in mind but was cut off by his voice.

“You can leave my pack now, my beta outside will lead you out,” He said before walking past me and leaving the room.

With a drop of tears falling out of my eyes which quickly cleaned I left the study and met with his Beta outside. His expression was unreadable, but I couldn't help but wonder why the Alpha King was so concerned about me leaving his pack unharmed after rejecting me so callously.

"Shall we?" His beta said as he gestured towards the exit. I nodded silently, following him as we made our way through the corridors of the packhouse. The familiar scent of the pack filled the air, a mixture of earthy musk and lingering traces of sorrow.

As we stepped outside into the cool evening air, Alexander turned to me, his gaze searching mine. “So what’s your name”

“My name is Emily,” I replied looking back at him.

“Nice meeting you Emily, I'm Beta Alexander but if I may ask what is your relationship with the Alpha he claimed he saw you unconscious at the pack territory but then he allowed you to stay in his room, he also allowed you to leave freely” Alexender explained with confusion written all over his face.

Not knowing what to say since I was instructed to not tell anyone that I'm his mate, I couldn’t lie, I had never been a good liar right from my pack so I told him the truth hopefully I’ll never see the Alpha King again.

With those words, he turned and began leading the way toward the edge of the pack's territory. We walked in silence for a while, the weight of unspoken emotions hanging heavily in the air. My mind replayed the moment when Marcus and I locked eyes, how I saw the pain and regret mirrored in his gaze. It was a fleeting connection, a mere glimpse of what could have been. But then It doesn't matter now. He made his decision, and I must accept it.

As we reached the boundary, Alexander halted and faced me once more. "I hope you find happiness, even if it's not with Marcus. You deserve it."

I mustered a faint smile, grateful for his kind words. "Thank you, Alexander. Take care."

He nodded and watched as I crossed into the unknown. The journey ahead felt uncertain and daunting, but I knew I had to find my own path, even without the Alpha King by my side.

Marcus POV

I stood alone in my room with a heavy heart filled with regret. As I replayed the encounter, with my mate, I couldn't shake the feeling that he had made a grave mistake. The vulnerability I had seen in her eyes had pierced through my armor, revealing the depth of my emotions.

My duty as an alpha had clouded my judgment. I tried to convince himself that rejecting her was for the greater good of my pack, that my mate who couldn't hold her own in the presence of an alpha was not fit to be his Luna. Yet, the ache in my chest told a different story.

I closed his eyes, trying to push away the turmoil within him. I have to be strong for his pack, for other werewolves. Determination settled in my heart as I made a decision. I mind link my most trusted warrior who was at the park territory to silently follow her.

As he answered and departed, I couldn't ignore the gnawing feeling of longing that tugged at his soul. A part of me yearned for her presence. The bond between us remained, weakened but unbroken.
