Two.

Alpha Zach’s POV

She was truly fascinating, her dark hair and her grey blue eyes were an odd combination but it had something stirring inside me that I had never felt before.

Seeing her struggle with the decision over Max had me curious. She was so different from her Grandmother who had always been quick to make a decision and move on, yet as Kayden talks to me, not a single word goes in my ear. I only have eyes for her and couldn’t resist giving her a quick kiss but I longed to take her to my room and have my way with her.

The Lycan Queen, who would have thought that I of all people would be mated to the Queen.

“You are not listening to me are you” Kayden has a huge grin on his face and I roll my eyes. “It’s true isn’t it, our new Queen is mated to you”

I shake my head “No, I am mated to her. The Queen hasn’t decided if she wants me yet”

Kayden frowns and looks over to Charlie who is sucking a lolly and staring at the monitor. I couldn't help but notice how she worked her tongue around it.

"What will it mean for your role Alpha?”

“Nothing, she will still need Alphas to run the pack” I catch her looking our way and smile at her, it was probably a little too obvious that we were talking about her

The flight as usual was uneventful apart from having the most beautiful women I had ever seen on board. At one point there was a significant change in the weather and it instantly became colder. I could see her shivering and offered a blanket which she practically ripped out of my hands as she wrapped it around her when it dawned on me that she only had a tiny bag of luggage, she was not going to be prepared for our weather at all.

I wanted to speak to her, I wanted to ask her about us but I couldn’t do it, not with Kayden around and listening, he was already tacking the mick out of me about how I felt towards Charlie, yet he was exactly the same when he first found his mate.

It wasn't only that, I was a powerful Alpha and yet somehow just the mere scent of her had me weak at the knees.

“Charlie?”

She pulls her headphones off and smiles at me “Are we nearly there?”

I nod “That’s not why I interrupted you, I would like some alone time with you when we land”

She stares at me, her eyes wide as she registers what I am saying when she starts frowning “Why?”

She was so suspicious of everything and I understood why, she had very little trust for anyone, especially with the upbringing she had

“So we can get to know one another”

Charlie screws up her face “You already know me, apparently I am some sort of Queen” she huffs and puts the headphones back on signalling that she clearly did not want to talk

It wasn’t what I meant in any circumstances, I wanted the opportunity to kiss her again but properly this time so that I could taste her. Her scent of firewood was already intoxicating and I wanted to devour her.

Leaving her alone, she starts to scratch her mark, the one Max had given her, a sign that he was accepting the rejection although we would all know when he has full accepted.

As time passes she scratches more and more until I can smell blood, she had pierced her skin.

Pinning Kayden to his seat as his fangs descend I order Charlie to the back of the plane, she looks alarmed but moves quickly but not before I see the red rings in her eyes.

Kayden was new to the Lycan world and still hadn’t gotten over his desire for blood once he smelt it, it made him the perfect warrior during a match but if anyone gets anything as simple as a papercut then he could become something of peoples nightmares.

“Stand down Kayden” It was an order using my Alpha tone, something that he couldn’t resist and his hands grip the arms of his seat as he fights against the beast within

Heading to the back of the plane, I find Charlie has locked herself in the bathroom and I knock, telling her it is safe to come out now but she refuses to open the door and when I tell her that I will make sure nothing happens she snorts but cracks the door a couple of inches, peering through at me.

“It’s not him I am worried about”

“What do you mean?”

“I could kill him if I wanted too”

I hadn’t realised that she would be the problem but she had killed her own father in the most brutal way.

“I would rather you didn't but why would you kill my Beta?”

Her grey blue eyes are dark and she shrugs “Instinct”

It was fascinating, it would be the same answer I would have given if I had sensed any danger to me.

“Look at him Charlie” She opens the door a little further and peers out at Kayden who is still gripping the chair

“Why would he attack me?”

“He smelt your blood”

Her hand reaches to her neck where her wound had already healed but a sly smile crosses her face

“He must be a nightmare when girls are on their period”

Her dark eyes turn back to a grey blue “Are all Lycans like that?”

“No, he is a new Lycan”

“What do you mean?”

“He used to be human but his mate was a Lycan and he agreed to be changed so he could be with his mate”

She frowns as she stares at me “He wanted to be a monster?”

“He wanted to be with his mate, giving up his humanity was the price he paid but he makes an excellent Beta, besides, we are not all monsters”

I finally convince her to come out of the bathroom and back to her seat but she spends her time watching Kayden the rest of the flight, keeping me on edge the whole time as I waited for her to attack him..

Tiredness eventually takes over and she falls asleep minutes before we land, hunched over in her seat and hugging her legs. I could have woken her, but she was exhausted, she hadn’t slept in days, well not since her friend Alexander’s passing which she will probably never forgive herself for so I make the decision to carry her to the car, holding her against my chest and feeling our connection as she snores lightly.
