Sense of Familiarity

The sound of screeching tyres came to a halt right in front of the Alfred residence. A Mini Porsche came into existence and out came Blue from it with a small bag in her left arched arm.

Taking her steps slowly, she saunters into the average duplex apartment through the light three-step stairs. In the balcony, she unbolted the door with the key which she had just retrieved from her bag.

As she got in, she breathed in the fresh aroma of the place she was well familiar with... the place she calls home. Instead of waiting behind in the living room to relax a little, she decided to do something else. Though a bit weary, she manages to drag herself up the stairs to the top floor where her room is located. At least, she could have a lone time to herself without interference from anybody.

As the now unlocked door to the room had been opened, she rushed straight to the bed and sinks into it, a soft moan escaping her rosebud lips. The view of the room was a typical lady's spec, eluding a blooming touch of pink and white in different corners of the room.

Truth be told, the only reason why she was this weary was because of the mister called Robinson. If he wasn't so strict, so harsh, maybe she wouldn't be facing such tiresome ordeal. Well, it's just week of the intern, but couldn't Mr Robinson just give her a bit of rest?

Take today for example, there wasn't any music lesson to be taken with the students as the lesson holds on Tuesdays and Fridays. But... Mr Robinson had taken the initiative to overload her with some music contents to deal with. What kind of brutality was that?

"Urrgh!" Her yell resounded through the sheets, releasing a slight sound.

Turning her position to the fore part facing up, she reached out for her bag on the bed. She dipped her hand into it and brought out a phone.

3:22 pm flashed on the lock screen soon as it came on after she pressed the power button. Taps after taps, she opted for the Facebook app as the blue color overcame the phone's screen. Soon, the color changed to white, indicating she had successfully logged into her profile account.

Putting the phone on her chest, she held both hands together over her head and stretched her entire body, relaxing the nerves. Feels good, she thought as she put her hands down and grabbed the phone again with her left hand, later adjusting it to the right.

The first thing she did on the app was to hit the 'message' menu. As the screen showed the contents of the menu after directing her to the 'messenger' app, she checked for messages by scrolling down. Two messages were revealed; one from Alexis McCarty - a friend from her college days, and the other from Jacob Shawn - the P.E. teacher Sydney introduced her to the last Thursday.

Choosing to go for Jacob's which was on the second row, she hit the profile and read the message he sent to her.

[I'm worried I might become sleep deprived.] Sent 11:53 pm.

"Hmmm," she made a sound as she read it. She recollected the chat she had with him that led to his last message, which she couldn't reply as she seemingly dozed off last night.

It was a chat about work and how it has been affecting his sleeping schedule due to the fact that he has to balance the school work with some other casual works he's into.

Probably wondering how she managed to get into a private chat with him, right? It all started when she received a friend request from him on Saturday. Since they weren't much of strangers in reality, it didn't take long for them to click. Two days isn't fast, is it? At least the topics were still casual.

She quickly replied his message, although his profile photo had a dark grey dot beside it, indicating his profile wasn't active at the moment.

[Try to adjust your work schedule then. That way, you'll get a nice sleep everyday.]

After sending it, she went and replied the message from the Alexis McCarty before opting out of the app. Soon after, she closed her sky blue eyes for a quick nap but got distracted after ten seconds.

The sound of a car hoot drifted her back to planet earth right before she even space-shifted out of it. Thinking her mom was back, she stood up from the bed to check out the window. She realized it was a neighbor and that was when she recollected her mom wouldn't be back until seven.

Her stomach suddenly yelped, making her realize she hadn't had a decent lunch yet. But she still wanted to take a nap. Eventually, she went for the former and went out of the room to prepare something to eat.

...

The next day — Tuesday.

Around some minutes past eleven in the morning.

In the music room of Westride High School, Blue could be seen seated behind a table with a book in front of her. Her blue colored eyes were fixated on the book which had the wordings about complex music terms written in it.

Presently, she was the only being in the room. There was an urgent staff meeting which also involves Mr Robinson, leaving her in charge of today's lesson which was due to commence in about five minutes time. And that's why she was intensely focusing on the book she was reading.

A discomfort suddenly hit her abdomen as she felt the urge to empty her urinary glands. Instantly, she stood up and headed to the restroom just outside the music room to do the needful.

By the time she headed back to the music room, she stood by the door. She could hear different murmurs from the room, indicating the students were in there already. She immediately felt nervous. She was going to handle them today so she felt a bit worried. Would she be able to scale through? But... she was going to make use of a unique technique to begin the introduction. Hopefully, it would work. With a silent sigh to calm herself, she strolled into the room.

As soon as the students noticed her presence, they immediately hushed their mouths. There was about sixty or so of them ranging from the Grade 9 freshman students to the Grade 12 final year students in the average spacious room, a few more than the attendance of the previous week. "Good morning, Miss Blue," most of them greeted her immediately. Majorly the girls, as the boys seemed unable to take their gaze off her young attractive face.

Though a bit uncomfortable, she forced a smile and replied them all before trying to notice the faces present in the room. She was a bit surprised though 'cause she could remember counting about forty students last Friday during Mr Robinson's teaching. The few empty spaces among the seats last Friday made her realize this. Why the sudden increase to this amount?

As she was deducing the new faces, she noticed a familiar one among them. A male student with a straight hair and slightly slim body. Yes, the student she bumped into on the first day she arrive d the school. She stared at him for a few seconds before averting her gaze away from his.

"So, today I'll be taking charge of the class. There's a staff meeting going on, and I hope you guys don't mind this arrangement,"

Some students muttered: "Not at all," while the others shook their heads instead in agreement.

Satisfied with their response, she continued. "Before we start, can you all simply call me Blue? I'm not used to the 'Miss' formality and I think it's better that way, right? At least we could initiate a better sense of familiarity..."

And with that, she had initiated the basic technique: Make them feel a sense of familiarity around you.
