Chapter 7

Dari was having many emotions on the drive home, but of all the emotions she was having, anger dominated all, she was not worried about the test results, she knew the father of her baby was Maxwell, there was absolutely no doubt about that.

But at the moment, she wishes it was anyone but him. She has never met a more despicable person in her entire life.

His audacity and mightier-than-thou attitude were infuriating and repulsive. He must surely think he was the king of the whole world or he was delusional enough to think they lived in his universe. Either way, he was a lunatic.

"How dare he, who does he think he was trying to intimidate and bully me, and even offering me money, so I can take back my claim?"

"What an arrogant bastard," she continued, still fuming.

Caroline was very curious about what happened in the office between the two, before they came in, in all the years she had known Dari, she had never seen her this angry, This person seems to get under her skin, she was amused and intrigued by her friend's anger.

"Dari, what happened in the office before Thomas and I came in?" Caroline's focus remained on the road even as she questions Dari, trying to get a better understanding of the situation at hand.

Caroline was not worried about the paternity of the baby, she has always known Dari to be an honest and straightforward person, so if Dari said Maxwell is the father of her unborn baby, then he is the father.

Dari went on to tell her everything that happened between Maxwell and her before they came in.

when she was done narrating, Caroline was left pondering the whole issue. One part of the story that got her curious most was the mention of Media.

"Dari, did you say he was worried about the situation getting leaked to the media?" Caroline parked her car right outside Dari's apartment.

"Who cares if he was worried about the media?"

Caroline realised Dari was too angry to be rational and can not be reasoned with at the moment, So she let the matter go for the moment, but still have it in mind to question Her when she was in a better mood.

They went upstairs to Dari's apartment, which was on the second floor of the building. Once inside, Dari took her bath and took a nap.

When Dari woke up, she was in a much better mood, so Caroline brought up the issue of Maxwell again.

"Hey Dari, why do you think he was worried about the media unless he is a public figure? If so, who is he, and what does he do?"

" I don't have answers to the questions you are asking, as you well know. We never got around to each other's names in the past."

" One thing is clear he is not In the entertainment industry, perhaps we can check him out on the internet. " Caroline rushed to get her phone.

They searched the Internet for any information on Maxwell Greenfield, but they came across a few wrong searches, they were few results for a Maxwell Greenfield an international Business tycoon, and they were many articles with no pictures.

They continued the search, and they were getting frustrated. Finally, they came across a feature on the I*******m page of Business Today magazine. They clicked on it, and there he was, looking larger than life.

Dari and Caroline looked at each other in surprise. None of them was expecting what they saw. they were more surprised about what they read.

Maxwell Greenfield is a thirty-two years old self-made business tycoon. He started his first company at the age of twenty-three

He is known for the hostile takeover of various companies, he is the owner of the Green Max Hotel chain, the owner of Greenfield Hospital one of the best hospitals around the world, and a major shareholder in many industries, he is at the top of the list the country's eligible bachelors and very little is known about him as he loves to keep his personal life private.

" Oh, my God!!! this is huge!" Caroline was shocked

Dari was speechless. She could not believe anything she just read. She had thought he was married and probably worried about his wife finding out about his infidelity. Now, it all started to make sense, his reaction to the news of her pregnancy.

And his fear of the media, maybe he was someone who was used to people trying to take advantage of his wealth by trying to blackmail him.

She could not believe he was the owner of the Greenfield Hotel and also the Green Max Hotel, where they had spent the night those few months ago.

she finally realized why he was so quick to throw money at her. He was one of the richest people in the country and possibly in the world. Dari was not sure what to do with the information.

Her baby daddy was a powerful man, but she can never being to imagine just how powerful he was, or how wealthy he was, the things mentioned in the magazine were just the only information the magazine could him.

the truth was that despite his wealth, Maxwell remains a mystery to the whole world, no one can truly estimate the level of his wealth or how powerful He truly was, all they could do was make wild guesses.

Maxwell's driver drove him back to his office, where his next meeting was to take place.

During the meeting he found himself distracted and unable to concentrate on the discussion taking place.

Maxwell could not get Dari out of his mind, there was no denying the fact that he was angry, she was trying to take advantage of him, perhaps to get quick cash.

Her timing was terrible, He was trying to move on with his life, and if the rumour was to get out, his relationship with Sonia and his reputation will be in jeopardy

she was undeniably beautiful. She had a vulnerable attribute to her. She looked innocent but too bad her innocence is restricted to her looks alone and does not seem to extend to her manipulative heart.

her Honey blonde hair complements her blue eyes, he wondered if her hair does shine in the sun, he could still remember the way her eyes lit up like they were on fire when she was furious in Doctor Thomas's office.

He wondered if they lit up too when she was excited and how they would look when she was making love, too bad he could not remember the only time they had sex. because he was too drunk to remember any of it.

He knew he should not be thinking about her, but somehow, he was unable to get her out of his mind.

The one thing Maxwell has wanted all his life was to have his own family, mostly because he never knew his biological father until his twenties, and when he finally did meet him, he refused to accept Maxwell as his son, as Maxwell had dreamt for years.

Maxwell's mother had gotten married when he was eight years old, to his stepfather, Clifford Andrews, Jason's father, thankfully he made sure he got the best education, while constantly reminding him that he was a mere inconvenience, his presence was merely tolerated as an extension of his mother.

Extra baggage he could very well do without, and so had his son, Jason, though they were the same age, Jason often reminded him he was nothing, and their life would be so much easier without him in it.

Maxwell wanted nothing more than to have a family of his own, something he never had while growing up, but fate seemed to have another plan for him, and there was nothing he could do about it.

Maxwell had learnt at a very young age that it is useless and futile to hope or to dream of something that might never happen.

In the same way, the was no need to think about something impossible for him to change, he could not allow himself to hope, to wish or to dream, that was a weakness he can not allow.

He was convinced Dari's baby can not be his, just as Amanda's baby was not his despite her claims, this was no different, in a week the result will be out and it will confirm he was not the father.

despite Maxwell's conviction, deep inside of him, the little boy who was never accepted nor loved, wished, and hoped that perhaps this time would be different.

there was the question of 'what ifs' and the possibilities and glimmer of hope that comes with it, but he can not let himself hope for something that can never be, There was no miracle.

He won't let himself hope only to be disappointed again. But as he lay down on his bed later that night, he was lost in a dream world filled with many possibilities.
