Elena's POV

"Sorry for the delay. I got held up," I said, not willing to throw Alex under the bus. As much as I'm annoyed with him for making us 20 minutes late to dinner, I know he was just being a good friend; it wouldn't be fair if I put the whole blame on him.

Jayson gives me a small grin. "It's okay; I know who's to blame." He looks across the booth, and I follow his eyes to see that he's looking at Alex with a knowing look.

Alex throws his hands up. "Okay, it wasn't completely my fault," he defends as he looks between Raymond and Jayson. Honestly, with the way he looks right now, it only confirms that it is entirely his fault. "Elena was wearing a crappy outfit, and I rectified the situation. So, you're welcome," he added, making that feminine thing of yours—trust me, Alex is way too feminine for me, even though I am the woman here.

I know Alex is only joking, but a girl's got to defend herself at some point. "First of all, my outfit wasn't as 'crappy' as you put it.
