I could tell you the exact moment my entire life took quite the turn for the worse. It was January 13th, 1920. She was 92 years old. I held her frail body in my arms and rocked her gently, running my fingers through her now silver and gray hair.
I let my fingers gently trace the Silver glittery infinity symbol etched on the side of her face and down her neck. Her body shuddered at my touch, courtesy of the mark.
I knew it was getting close to the end. As much as I wanted to deny it, she had been sick for a while now and refused to let me heal her. 76 years together, and it was all about to be gone. I contemplated just changing her anyways, right now, before the world took her from me forever.
I could change her into a Wolf, or a Vampire. Hell I would have changed her into a filthy damn Necromancer if she would have agreed. But I just couldn't bring myself to go against her wishes.
This very conversation we have had many times before. It always ended with the same outcome. She didn’t want to live a cursed life. She was Human, and she planned to die Human. I had tried to talk her out of it more times than I could count. Silly Humans, they were such a strange species.
I had agreed to her tems when I met her, and honestly I thought she would change her mind as the years went on… But she never did.
She was so strong and so beautiful with her brown curly hair, olive skin, curvy body, and light brown eyes. She was the most amazing woman I had ever, in my lifetime, had the pleasure of knowing… Let alone being mated to… By choice of course.
It was my luck she chose me all those years ago. She didn’t know, but she saved me from a lot more than just myself. I was torn from my thoughts when she started to rustle in my arms.
“Thank you for giving me such a wonderful life. I will always love you.” She said softly as she stared deep into my silver eyes. Her gaze burned a hole straight into my soul. Then she closed her eyes, and exhaled her last breath.
I had to stay strong, for her… But it felt as if my entire being was ripped into a million pieces. I had to push Axel, my Wolf, who was howling in pain at losing our mate, from my mind in order to keep my composure.
The call to the coroner was short and to the point. They were there within an hour to pick up her body and take it to the mortuary.
She didn’t want a funeral, she didn’t want anything fancy. No big group of people mourning over her, or talking about how great she was. She never cared for any of that. “Cremate me and keep me with you always.” She used to say. I planned on it.
I was standing at the mortuary, silver and black urn in hand. The sunlight was glinting off the urn casting a sparkle around the entire room. My face was solemn and void of emotion. I couldn’t breathe, let alone speak to anyone.
I materialized at home in front of the mantle and had just enough time to set the urn down before I lost it. I fell to the floor in a crumpled mess. The tears streamed down my face for what seemed like an eternity.
Every emotion I had been holding in since she passed just released into the open. It was as if every molecule of air was sucked from my lungs. It was all I had to suck air in so I could keep shedding tears like a waterfall. My heart was completely shattered, my every being was torn into pieces.
I wasn’t even sure how I could ever live on without her.
I don’t even know how long I layed there on the floor at the mantle before I fell into a deep, and thankfully, dreamless sleep.
After I woke, I swore I would never show outward emotion again. The urn remained on the mantle in the exact spot I left it before my breakdown.
Chapter 2(77 years earlier) “Aren’t you a pretty little thing.” I purred, as I admired the glitter shining from the infinity symbol standing vertically, my newly administered mark, upon the side of this woman's face. I wasn’t even sure of her name, but I didn’t care. She was petite. Had to be about 5 foot 4 inches. Blonde hair, short in a bob cut. Her eyes were deep blue, and her skin tanned. She was a Wolf, I could hear her Wolf’s internal dialogue which made it that much easier to know what she wanted. I preferred Wolves, they were easier to mark and more obedient. “She will do… For the next few weeks at least.” I smirked to Axel. I had marked a plethora of women, but never completed the mating ritual making the mark permanent. It’s too much fun to just play. I had never found a woman who really piqued my interest anyways. Plus, I was busy, always busy running these covens. I had 19 covens under myself, and their Priests were always so needy. That and trying to keep order in th
Chapter 3We woke up early, around 6am. That was usual for me. My plaything was in the shower, and I was tempted to join her… But why? What was the point in spending any actual time with her? I don’t want to be with her and the more time I spend with her the more attached she will get. I sighed out loud, caught up in my thoughts when I was mind linked by Jerome. “Sir, the Necromancer King doesn’t want to agree to the deal… He wants all the bodies, not just the ones we kill. He’s not budging. He told me to tell you that was his final offer and if we don’t like it, we can shove the deal up our asses.” He said with urgency. “Fucking Necromancers, Jesus Christ. Why must they be so fucking difficult?” I snarled. I took a deep breath in and pressed my fingers to the bridge of my nose trying to stay calm. “Don’t worry about it. Let him know that I will meet with him my damn self. We will be leaving in 20 minutes. Thank you, Jerome, for your efforts.” I said back through the mind link, then
Chapter 4"Take your new toy and meet me at home." Blaze said, and I knew he wasn't asking. "Yes, daddy." Haven said. She knelt down and held her arms out over my plaything's body. Her eyes turned completely white and there was a black shimmery substance suddenly surrounding her in a whirlwind. "Per manum meam, et mortui resurgent." She chanted in Latin. I believe she said, ‘by my hand, the dead shall rise.’ I watched as my plaything started to stir. She got up, cracked her neck back in place and shot me a fiery glare. She looked the same but somehow different. She looked much darker than before. Her makeup was different too. It was smokey and black now, matching Havens. She also had a dark demeanor about her, you could feel it. Her attitude had changed, and her confidence was boosted. It was like being resurrected brought out a whole new side, a darker side of her… And apparently, I was majorly attracted to that.I also noticed my mark was still glistening on the side of her face. S
Chapter 5I was right, the week had dragged on and on, seeming as if it were never going to end. I was looking forward to my meeting with Blaze, but more importantly I hoped I could get another glimpse at Haven. She may have been insane in my dreams, but it almost made me want her more. I honestly had no idea what type of person she was. I had seen her one time for what seemed like three seconds. Definitely not enough to make a character judgment.I materialized at the clearing where I was to meet with Blaze again to finalize our deal. The regular line of Necromancer Soldiers appeared and stood at attention. A few moments later the two in the middle moved out of the way for the King to come through. “Ave reginae ad omnes.” They all chanted in unison. Wait, all hail the Princess? I needed to work on my Latin, that was for sure, but I was sure that was what they just said. Just then Haven appeared walking through them into the clearing. Blaze was nowhere to be found. My god she was be
Chapter 6After what seemed like forever we came to a clearing with a huge wooden gate in its midst. It was guarded on both sides and on top by Necromancer soldiers like the ones from our meeting place. “Ave reginae ad omnes.” They all chanted in unison, opening the gate and letting us through. It seemed they always greeted their King or Princess with this phrase. Very formal.Once inside the gate I saw a cobblestone road with gothic looking cottages lined up and down both sides of the street. There were multiple streets branching off with more cottages. It looked as if all the businesses were stationed along this straightaway, and the homes were along the branched off roads. I noticed all the Necromancers who saw us walking down the road stopped to stand at attention. I was used to this, my covens did this as well. These people were extremely formal. The main road went on for quite a way, a couple of miles at least. I watched as it ran into another gate. This one was made of wrought
Chapter 7It was about 6:45pm when Haven knocked on my door. I set my book down to answer it. She grabbed my hand and we headed down to dinner. She let go of my hand right before we entered the dining hall, and I was surprised she held onto it that long. Any of the warriors or guards could have seen, and I'm sure they would report everything to her father. She’s a daring little thing. I thought. The danger of being caught just intrigued me more. The dining hall was beautiful. It had the same dark and dreary atmosphere as the entire castle. There were at least four huge black crystal chandeliers above us, casting an eerie glow down to the floor. The paintings on this floor depicted the dead being risen and Necromancers using magic. If I were to guess, I’d say they were life sized paintings. But as far up on the walls as they were, I couldn’t tell their actual size. The room was large with tables lined throughout the hall. I assumed from the size, that they all ate together, usually. T
Chapter 8God Damnit. I thought to myself, pinching the bridge of my nose again. The Cryomancer was standing there looking at me curiously. No wonder the Cryomancers are attacking, the fucking Necromancers have one of their kind locked up. They won't stop until they get her back. But when they do… And they find out she's dead… They are going to start a fucking war. My thoughts were raging. How exactly do we get ourselves out of this mess? The Cryomancer seemed calm and collected. She wasn’t angry or spiteful, and I wasn’t sure if it was because I’m a Reaver or if there was another reason. But the second she heard rustling in the tunnel she turned towards the sound, let out a screech, and shot an array of ice crystals down the hall at whoever was approaching. I heard their scattered footsteps as they ran back the other way.She then locked eyes with me. “What is your name?” She said into my mind. I turned to look around to see if anyone else was near enough to have heard that. Was I goi
Chapter 9My dreams were riddled with Haven, Necromancers and Cryomancers. I should have just dreamwalked and got myself out of that mess, but I was hoping maybe my dreams would have given me any type of ideas as to what to do with this situation we had ended up in. Unfortunately, I was unable to come to any conclusions. I got up and hopped in the shower, threw on a traditional silver suit with black accents and black shoes. Ran my hand through my hair and headed down to speak to the Cryomancer. It was a little strange… I didn’t see anyone out and about or walking around. The tunnels were lacking the few guards that were roaming around down there yesterday when we went as well. I wonder what they are doing, or where they are at? I ignored the thought though, because when I finally came to the small tunnel entrance I could see it was now covered in glistening ice crystals. So, she really pushed it and made an entire ice tunnel, I see. I stepped inside and the temperature instantly dr
