Chapter 6: Unexpected

“Take her,” I immediately opened my eyes because the moment I heard those words, I constantly regained my consciousness.

My nape stings.

“Don’t!” I exclaimed when some men wants to hold me, “What do you people want from me?” I asked as I moved myself to the edge of the seat, leaning my back on the car’s door.

Their faces were unfamiliar and by the looks, they are not one of Gideon’s men.

Suddenly, I remembered their conversation before I passed out. Without doing it, I’m in this situation again; tying knots to Gideon’s distorted life.

They just looked at each other before grabbing me on both of my arms. I wasn’t able to shake them off because their strength is twice more than what I can offer.

They suppressed my strength earlier and I can’t seem to find it in me.

“Who’s behind this?!” no one answered, instead, they forced me out of the car. Dragging me as if I was a sack of rice.

“Stop moving!” one of the men shouted when I keep myself struggling to their grip, as he suddenly choked me.

“Hey! Stop it! You’ll kill her!” I felt the man’s hand loosened on my neck. I cough for seconds. I wasn’t expecting the man’s behavior.

I really tried my best to stay away from Gideon and his business yet here I am again, dealing with his shitty knots!

“What’s with a big fuss? She’ll gonna die anyway! Tss.”

I keep on coughing while they argue about my life. Their guts to plan either I live or not in front of me is insane. They don’t even have any conscience on slowing their words down.

“Let’s stop this argument. We all both worked for one person and he decides what to do with this woman.” after the man said, they hold both of my arms again and grabbed me inside.

When we got inside, a strong smell of chemical greeted me. I don’t know but the place looks like a real deal.

It was foggy with green yet dim lights. Everyone are busy moving and doing things as if it was an obligatory.

The ground are wet.

My heartbeat is low and steady as I moved my eyes around, roaming the place.

“What kind of place is this…” I mumbled.

I suddenly heard a faint sound of footsteps coming from the right side. Before I could turn my head, I saw the men around me immediately bent their heads.

“Good evening, boss. We got Valois’s wife as you commanded. Unharmed,” I heard one of the men said.

I faintly chuckle.

“Unharmed? One of you almost choked me to death.” I retorted without looking at their so called boss. I don’t have time to spare just to witness what kind of person he is, “Gideon isn’t my husband. I’m not bind to him with marriage. Stop the delusion that he’ll appear in front of you just to save me.” I added.

After I said those words, everyone remained silent. It was deafening as if I stepped on a ticking bomb.

“No one asked for your opinion, lass.”

The voice does not sound like one of the men who dragged me to this place. This time, I turned my head around; accepting a death glare coming from the person behind of this abduction.

I can’t clearly see his face because of the green dim lights but his figure is almost the same age with Gideon. It might be one of his enemies.

Remembering how I escaped from Gideon just to be tangled with his biggest problems, if I just faced him earlier, would it turned out differently?

No.

There’s no time to turn back and regret my decision in not going back to my condo. This is thrice better than having another discussion with that man.

“I just want to inform you that all of this are just wasting time,” I don’t know but I never been talkative since then.

I heard their boss chuckles as he walks in front of me.

I looked at the men as they keep their heads low. I immediately turned my face to the front.

“You have some guts to talk back,” his masculine voice greeted my face as I felt his hands, gripping my chin. I can now see his face clearly.

He has a fine features, probably, having the same age with Gideon.

I stared at him as I hold my breath. He suddenly grins as he was done mesmerizing every inch of my face.

“No wonder why Valois is head over heels to your bewitching beauty,” he said without taking his eyes out of me.

My forehead furrowed as I removed his hands on mine. I don’t like to be called like that especially, not in this kind of situation.

“What do you want from me?” I asked.

“I don’t need anything from you but I need you to get something from someone who admires you,” the man said as he turned his back from my direction. “Take her to the cabin and lock her in.” he added without letting me speak a word and suddenly vanished from my eyes.

I want to struggle when the men suddenly holds my arms again yet I remained myself calm as they dragged me nowhere.

This time, I won’t let them see even a single fear in my face. I don’t know what their boss is saying but I can’t also explain the hope I felt that Gideon might come here and save me.

“You stay here.” the man who choked me earlier muttered as he pushed me inside a room then immediately closes the metal door.

Does he expect for me to barge out in this place?

I let out a deep sigh and walks around. The room was a little spacious with only small glass table and a bed made with metal.

I sat down as I tried to find a way out yet everything inside was a closed-place. Even a rat could not enter.

I sigh out of frustration, remembering that I’ve been in this situation four years ago. The hour before marrying Gideon yet I escaped.

I escaped…

Yes. I did.

Yet…

My parents died in that day that even I, cannot do anything in order to save them.

I can’t blame myself since I was powerless but there’s a part of me saying that it was my fault.

If I just accepted the marriage without a fuss, they must still be here, alive and I should not be experiencing all of this stuffs alone.

I closed my eyes when tears was about to fall.

This is not the time to remember all of it.

I stare at the closed door for a second and suddenly stood up but fall back down to my feet.

My heart were slowing in tempo. Small ragged gasps were escaping from my throat.

I gulped and grasp for breath, screaming silently.

What’s happening?

I tried to take my body to the bed yet my life is slipping away.

Suddenly, a small chemical compounds ignited within the area. It’s leaving me without air.

My head spins as I hold my chest but the teargas was pressing against my throat; I could feel my esophagus closing. I was slowly losing consciousness.

I screamed for help before I could lost all of it.

I opened my eyes. I immediately turned my head to the side and it feels like a bad idea. It hurts so much that wants me to throw up.

I lift my right arm and there’s an IV taped to it. When I turned my head to the left side, there’s a handset with a call button and in front is a gray curtain.

I immediately remembered what happened as I sat from the bed, making my right hand numb because of the dextrose.

“How long have I been here? Who’s place is this?” I mumbled.

“You’ve been here since last night. You were out unconscious.” I turned my head to the front, behind those gray curtains are open doors. It was Gideon, standing while staring at my direction.

He smirked after realizing that what’s happening right now confused me.

“You were lucky that you did not inhaled another bunch of chemical and that I arrived in time,” he added as he walked to me. I was still trying to cope up with myself.

“What happened? Why are you here?” I asked when Gideon stopped in front of me, standing with crossed-arms.

He stared at me, the smirk on his face were fading. Gideon’s expression changed. I don’t know but he was like suppressing his anger as he stared at me.

I want to scold at him, blame him why I need to feel this shit on my head but I don’t have enough energy for it. Those chemicals almost take my life and I can feel being barely hanging on a thread.

“Stop moving yourself,” I was startled when Gideon sat beside me as he gently cupped my hands, “You need to regain your health.”

My brow raised when I stared at his eyes. It was worried. I don’t know why but he shouldn’t feel any concern towards me. He should not show it when in fact, he was the reason why I was abducted and put into this situation.

I really want to shout at him. Slap him.

“I know that you despises me, Greer.” I bit my lower lips as I turned my gaze away, “You can do that but for now, recover.” he then holds my chin gently, “Don’t think that I’m doing this out of pity. I know that I cannot change what you see in me but please, do take a rest and recover.”

I remained silent. I wasn’t aware for him to be like this.

“After you regain your health back, you can fire me with any hatred you have.” after Gideon said those words, it fell silent but I can feel his stares and his sudden movements gives me chills.

“Stay at my place. I’ll take care of you and make sure no one will hurt you again as you are claiming back your health,” he then gently pulls my head closer to him, planting tiny kisses on my forehead; leaving me unguarded as my heart flutter for the first time.
