Chapter 2: Slap of Uncertainty

“Miss Williams…”

My heart was still beating furiously. Seems like it was traumatized because of what happened earlier.

“Miss Williams?”

In front of that man, I was powerless. I can’t even defend myself.

“Miss Williams, are you still with me?” I immediately turned my gaze to the front.

“Attorney Scott…” I mumbled. I forgot that I was with her. We are currently at a cafe.

I took a peek on my wrist watch and it’s past four in the afternoon. I haven’t eaten lunch yet.

“You look pale. Are you okay?” I stared at her for a second before nodding.

“Y-Yeah. I’m good.”

“You sure?” I nodded, “Okay then, let’s proceed to the pap--”

“I’m here to cancel the petition,” I said, cutting the Attorney’s words. Her lips was in awe. I understand her. Yes, I got the nerves on changing my mind every last minute.

“Why? You already gotten this far. You’ve already stake hundreds of dollars for this petition.”

I did not answer and immediately fished a cheque on my purse.

“Thank you for helping me till this time, Attorney Scott.” after putting down the cheque in front of her, I stood up.

“I can’t accept this cheque without doing nothing, Miss Williams. I’m a lawyer,” she mutter before I could take a step.

I sigh.

“I know but it won’t affect your image, especially, your ego. You did your job. Take this because you’ve done it well. Thank you,” I did not wait for her response and left the cafe.

I have no reason to cancel the petition since I’ve come so far at this instance yet I don’t have the files anymore. Gideon tear them into pieces earlier. I shouldn’t brought it if anything of this will happen.

I took a cab and after almost twenty minutes, I arrived at the condo.

Yawning, I dragged myself on the way to my bedroom. Eyes were drooped shut with each step. I fell into my bed and my heels blackened the covers. I rubbed my eyes then flung my arm over my face to feel the darkness. I did not even have the time to turn on the lights.

Within the darkness, thoughts were hovering around from what happened earlier. I broke into sweat as my heart pounded.

“I never expected for him to find me. Why did I stay calm that he wouldn’t go this far just to search for me?”

In the middle of my thoughts, I begin to nod off, thinking of Gideon. Surely, I assumes, that after this day, everything wouldn’t be normal.

The smell of roasted chicken tickled the tip of my nose just seconds before the alarm screamed through its tiny top speaker. I immediately reached out my right hand to the bedside table, searching for the clock’s snooze button.

I was about to close my eyes when I remembered the smell that woke me up.

“Wait…” I muttered to myself when something doesn’t feel right. I roamed my eyes with confusion, “I’m certain that when I fell asleep, the lights were off…” I whispered when the lights in my room are on.

I take my eyes on my feet. The heels are gone!

Without hesitation, I stood up and ran to the kitchen. The smell became stronger and I was right, someone was using the kitchen.

“You are awake,” a deep and husky voice said. It took me a second before I could realize that it was Gideon. He was wearing a black apron and behind it was a white long-sleeve t-shirt while holding a ladle.

My stomach twists as I felt a lightning crackle through my veins and time slowed down.

“What? How is this happening?” I’m too stunned to move. This shouldn’t possible.

“Well, it already did,” he said, barely moving a muscle on his face.

I stared at him as he turn his face back to the stove. His arms are moving, stirring something.

I diverted my eyes on the table and saw the roasted chicken that caught my nose. How long does he been here?

“It’s already nine in the evening. I sleep that much, aye?” I mumbled to myself.

Slumping shoulders, I turned my back to leave the kitchen but then, a hand suddenly hold my waist.

“Where do you think you’re going?” he asked between my ears. Gideon’s deep voice immediately sent shivers down to my spine. His warm breath were touching my skin, “Look at me,” he added as he pulled me closer, forcing to face him.

His eyes softened as gaze prolonged while staring at me. His pupils are dilated but he suddenly glance on the side.

I stared at how the veins on his neck moves, doing heavy breathing. He was intensified.

“What are you doing here?” I asked before taking myself away from him.

He cleared his throat before turning his eyes back at me.

“I got my permission,” he said.

My left brow raised, “From who?”

“Your husband.”

I paused for a second and peered intently at him.

“Husband?”

“Yeah,” Gideon point his self, “Me,” he added.

I stopped, taken aback. Instead of throwing tantrums, I just stared at him for a second then divert my eyes.

I don’t know how to get rid of him in my condo yet, it’s impossible.

“Sit.” he muttered. Even if I don’t want to, I cannot avoid doing what he wants.

He pulled a chair for me as he goes back in front of the stove. It took several minutes before hearing a clicking sound. He might done cooking since the crackling already stopped.

Gideon immediately put a clean plate in front of me.

“Here, eat this.” he said after putting rice and chicken thighs on my plate, “It’s your favorite,” Gideon added. I was taken aback.

How come he didn’t forget about it? It’s been four years.

I started eating without uttering a single word. I can feel Gideon’s stares as he was sitting beside me.

I immediately shifted my eyes around the kitchen when it accidentally landed on his direction. He was staring at me like there is no tomorrow.

What’s his deal?

“Aren’t you going to eat?” I asked when Gideon’s gazes are making me uncomfortable.

He did not answered but still keeping his eyes intact on my face. I shrugged and was about to eat when he suddenly holds my hand holding a spoon.

I looked at him with disbelief. What is his problem this time?

I was startled when Gideon started moving his body closer to mine. He stopped when our face was inch away from each other.

“W-What?” he did not answer as his gray eyes were staring at me directly for seconds.

My heart skipped a beat when I realized that Gideon’s lips was touching the side of my mouth. I felt his lips moving on my skin, gently sucking it.

I was frozen by the warm sensation building inside my body.

I want to push him but my limbs can’t even move, no. They are prohibiting me to react.

After a couple of seconds, he decided to take his lips way from my skin; leaving me dumbfounded.

My cheeks heated when I fully realized what had happened.

No one ever did this to me.

For four years, no one have the chance to get close to me, not even touching a glimpse of my skin.

I stared at him with my mouth agape. My mind was blank and my brain wasn’t functioning right at this moment.

I felt like a lightning struck my senses.

It was a moment of silence when Gideon broke it with his underlying chuckles.

“That’s enough dinner for me,” he said as he licked his lips while staring at me with enticing eyes.

I was breathless yet after a second, I finally had the courage to react. I stood up in front of him as I raised my right hand and hit his left cheek with open palm.

Gideon was astonished.

“It’s a good thing that I never let you have me four years ago. If you think that you are ahead of the people around you, well, I’m not them.” I stared at Gideon again with a glower, “Even if the world is ending, I won’t love you. Never.”
