CHAPTER 4

Luckily, there were no guards at the border. With cautious steps, I approached the border and crossed over.

The moment I did, I felt a snap in my guts. The tie has been cut off. I heard a loud howl and angry grunts and that pushed me.

I ran quickly, my heart pounding in my chest and the muscles in my neck burning as I ran away.

The growls of wolves running after me me pushed me. They would catch up with me soon and I’ll be dead meat.

I suddenly regret running away from the pack. I should never have listened to Tata. I should have just kept my head down like I always did and ignored Darren and Tiana.

Why did I have to risk my life like this.

Another problem was the fact that I didn’t even know where I was going. I have never been out of the pack and I had no idea if I was running in the correct direction or into danger.

I was now a rogue and there were a lot of packs that hated rogues and killed them on sight. I only hoped that I wouldn’t be unfortunate to stumble upon one.

The path I ran along suddenly came to an end. Below was a large ocean. I could hear the sounds of the wolves getting closer and I considered my options.

Get caught by whichever wolf was chasing me and get tortured before I was finally killed or jump to my death?

The latter option seemed like the best decision and so I jumped. I landed in the water with a loud thud and I remained under.

I was still alive luckily but I had to remain like this so they thought I was dead and leave.

After staying under the water for a long time, I came up for air. Coughing and breathing in all the air I could at once. My lungs burned.

The ocean looked vast but I needed to swim away. And so I began swimming until my muscles went numb.

There was no sign of land. Just water and water for days. This could probably be the end for me.

I caught on to a floating board and closed my eyes in fatigue.

When I opened my eyes again, the sun was shining brightly above me and I realized something strange.

I wasn’t in the water. I sat upright and looked around.

“You were out for a while” a gentle voice said to me and I snapped my head to the right.

A beautiful woman was sitting on a log and staring at me.

“Who are you? Where am I?” I asked looking around.

“On land. I found you floating in the ocean and I saved you. You’re quite lucky you didn’t get affected by the storm”

There was a storm? Seems like I slept right through it.

“Where are you from?” She eyed me.

“Nowhere”

“Definitely you are from somewhere” she has an accent.

“No. I’m not”

“Did you run away?” her eyes searched mine.

Why did she even think that I ran away?

“It’s okay if you did. I ran away too. My father is really strict. I love him though and I know he loves me too but I want to be able to make my own choices” she cried out.

I almost scoffed at her. Having unconditional love from her father. I wish I had that now.

“I’m an omega” I simply said and her eyes widened.

She instantly knew what that meant. The horrors and hardship I had to face and now being a rogue.

I let out the scoff I had been holding back.

“What do you plan to do now?”

I shrugged. I had absolutely no idea what I planned to do with myself.

“Maybe just wander until I’m finally killed”

“No. Don’t do that. Come back with me to my fathers pack”

“I thought you ran away”

“I did. But I plan to return”

“Good for you. I’m not going back to a pack. I just escaped from one I’m not about to enter into another”

“I promise to protect you as much as I can” she smiled at me and I studied her.

She seemed sincere but so did Tiana.

There’s no telling what she may do to me later on.

“No thank you”

“Come on. You’ll be much safer in my pack. On this side of the world, there are so many dangerous packs around and they’ll kill you. They hate rogues”

“Example. The black heart pack. Their alpha is the strongest, deadliest and coldest wolf to ever exist but he has a strong hatred for rogues”

“I’ll make sure to stay clear” I returned. she studied me for a long while without saying anything and then she heaved a breath.

“Okay then. I’ll just point you to somewhere safe and then I’ll be on my way”

“Okay. Thank you” I said in a small voice. I could accept that since I was in unfamiliar territory.

“Let’s go then” we walked in silence. The birds chirping loudly was the only sound that could be heard.

My stomach rumbled and she giggled.

“There’s food ahead if you’re interested”

“I am. Please” my stomach rumbled again. I haven’t had anything to eat since the previous days and it was telling on my body.

I walked beside her as fast as I could until we arrived at a large clearing. There were so many fruits on the trees with bright colors and they looked ripe but I’ve never come across them before in my life.

Maybe it’s because we are on a different side of the world and the fruits grown here will definitely be different from the ones I’m used to back at home.

“Eat to your fill” she said and handed me a long stick.

I hit the ripe fruits and they fell to the ground. I grabbed one, biting into it and I moaned at the juiciness. It was the sweetest thing I have ever tasted in my entire life.

I was so lost in the sweetness of the fruit that we didn’t notice or hear the sound of anyone coming.

I looked up and spotted the first one. It was a very tall man who had white markings on his face and chest. His teeth was bared in a threatening snarl.

I dropped the fruit in my hand instantly, the sweetness disappeared. I took a step back and bumped into the girl.

“There’s a man here” I whispered.

“Men. They are plenty” my heart thumped in my chest and I discovered another one. We were surrounded.

They took threatening steps forward.

“Do you know how to fight?” She asked.

I shook my head but then I remembered she couldn’t see me.

“No”

“Fuck” she cursed under her breath.

With a loud roar, one of the men attacked.

“I’ll try to fight as many as I can. Go get help” she shouted and collided with one of the men.

“Who do I get help from?”

“My pack. It’s to the right. Don’t take any turn. Just keep going. Tell them Sienna is in trouble and they’ll find me” she yelled.

One of the men charged towards me but I ducked and she hit him in the jaw.

I contemplated on staying to help her to fight but I realized I’ll only be a distraction. I couldn’t fight so the best thing was to search for her park and ask them for help.

I took off towards the right like she instructed. Luckily, none of the men followed behind me and I ran as fast as I could. I kept running towards the right despite how thin the path started to get.

The thorns from the bushes pricked my skin as I pushed through.

I heard an earth shattering growl and I paused. Was it from her? I looked in the direction the sound had come from.

Maybe I should return to her. I took a step forward but I stopped myself. I needed to get help.

When I turned back, I had forgotten the direction I was running in earlier. I turned round hoping to get the correct direction but everything looked the same to me.

I heard a scream and I ran in the first direction I thought was right.

I pushed myself harder and harder, my legs burning from exertion.

As I continued to run, I heard sounds coming from ahead. Must be her pack.

Not long after, I reached a pack border. The men were magnificent and large. They had no smiles on their face as I approached.

“Sienna is in danger” I said to the first man that I reached.

His response was a threatening growl.

“Rogue” he snarled at me in an unfriendly tone.

“Rogues are not welcome in the black heart pack” someone said from behind and I was hit on the head.

I fell on the ground and I blacked out.
