CHAPTER THIRTY ONE.

It was late by the time Walter decided he had soothed his inner child enough and was ready to stop torturing everyone and go back to the mansion.

Gabby was a mess, she was famished, tired, dirty, and hungry but she had just had the very best day of her entire life.

On their way back to the mansion, she walked closer to Walter. As a person who could count the number of times she had smiled in her life, Walter had made her not just smile but laugh till her ribs hurt. Even now while they walked home with nothing but their torch to light the narrow way back to the mansion, he was still making dry jokes in the hopes of getting a chuckle or giggle out of her.

“You have been so silent Andrew, are my jokes that dry? Why can't you be like the good lady Gabby over here and fake a smile or two, doctors say it is good for your health. Sometimes I think you should pay me for bringing some kind of color into your life,” Walter said to Andrew who held the torch ahead of Gabby while he followed car
