Chapter Twenty-Two: Yet another

Sophie walked backwards. Jesse heard her footsteps.

"Where are you going?" She asks.

James left them standing there in the middle of the dark. They've been there for minutes, and Sophie's arm numbs as the wind grew colder.

"How?-" Jesse felt the unusual cold in her arm. She can feel on her feet that this place is underground. Pebbles and twigs were under her shoe. And there is no light around here, so there is no hole nearby.

"Sophie!" she screams, holding her arm with another arm.

Before Sophie could reply, she tripped. A loud thwack on the ground startled Jesse and made her turn around. Sophie groans and pats her butt. She tells Jesse, "We should get going."

Sophie turns her head trying to determine where she is. "Where are you?"

"At your back," Jesse replies then suddenly grabs her arm.

“Here,” Jesse pulls her hand.

Sophie rubs her butt and looks around the path. In front of her is great darkness, no light can be seen. She then looks up.

“There must be a tree somewhere above us.
