#Chapter 5

Amara's POV;

"Ah!!" I nearly caused the driver to have an accident when I screamed. After I saw my spouse's face, I was completely taken aback.

"My lady, what is the problem? Are things going well for you?" Mr. Timothy questioned me, looking warily through the rearview mirror of his car as he slowed down.

I apologized and said tremblingly, "You can keep driving; I was just shocked to see my husband's face online." Mr. Timothy gave an understandable smile, and I made a mental note to never cry out so loudly again.

I kept staring into the face of the man who was going to become my husband as the drive resumed. Darlington Briggs.

Before I entered the university, I had seen him. I stepped on him by accident when we crossed paths because I was walking with my friend Esther Peters at the time.

Esther was an attractive and charming actress who was always observing the wealthy and attractive men attending the university.

I questioned how a wealthy girl like Esther Peters, who did not come from a home where poverty was the norm, could be so readily influenced by money. Her parents were billionaires, but ever since we were university graduates, Esther moved to a more distant country, and I did not hear from her again.

Not only was she not on F******k, which would have made it simple for me to look up Esther online and obtain her updated contact details, but she has also not gotten in touch with me, even though she is aware that I go by my real name online.

I silently gawked at the attractive image on my phone screen. At that time, I told Darlington I was sorry, even though I did not know his name. Without answering, he just walked away, staring at me in disbelief.

I never got to see him again until I finished my education there. I told Esther about my secret crush on him, and I found out that he might be a final-year student.

He was the only guy I saw and admired, looking at his handsome face now that he had grown older and more mature.

I also saw a few other guys that I usually think are pretty cool, but I did not give them a chance. I had gone out with Esther on multiple occasions with the intention of running into Darlington again, if only to get to know him better and to at least know his name. I never get to see him, though.

I kept thinking about him, how my heart had raced when he had held me to keep me from falling when I had tripped and fallen on him.

I became lost in admiration of him, then I almost dropped to the floor like a dummy, feeling his firm arms wrap around my waist and catch me closely. I wonder if that is why he avoided talking to me.

Esther taught me that it is best to have a classic, stone-cold disposition and let the man drool over you rather than sulking over him.

That was not deliberate, though. Darlington was quite tall, and he appeared extremely attractive when dressed casually, as I observed. I could see some other girls in our school glaring at me, as if I had deliberately stepped on him to get his attention, even after he left without answering.

"So this man is my husband now?" I thought to myself as I sighed.

My eyes were so unbelievable. How attractive Darlington appears now! I clicked on his profile picture to view some of his timeline photos, but as soon as I saw a picture of him with another woman, my eyes became sad.

"Did Dad not tell me that Darlington was expecting me and that he was single?"

Upon seeing a picture of Darlington Briggs with the slender, strong model he proposed to, my heart broke.

The way he got down on one knee and proposed to her, and the look on their faces, made my heart hurt.

Observing how adorable they were together and Darlington's caption, "She said yes to me," made my heart break. I am ecstatic right now.

My heart began racing and tears filled my eyes. It was like I wanted to scream at the driver to stop and take me back to my father's house.

However, I recalled that my father had instructed me to be back home with my children and his future grandchildren. In addition, I recall asking my mom if Darlington had a partner already.

I was single and knew I had not been in a relationship. But from how my mother described them, and from the warning she gave me the night before not to pack too much, the case would be unusual for a man who was raised in the city and whose father is a billionaire. My mom was not impressed with my sense of style.

I was crying without realizing it because I felt betrayed when I saw the pictures of Darlington and his girlfriend, and I watched him tag her profile as "my baby" next to his own.

Online, she went by Jenna Colton and had a large fan base. At least a million followers. In Country Z, she was a celebrity. I wonder how they would handle me now.

"This man probably had no idea that I was his wife. Not with "his baby" around, I am sure. He would not accept me. Even though it was the last thing my parents wanted me to do for them before I was finally an independent woman, I still wanted to obey them even though I did not want to travel to the city. I would like to go to the Briggs Family Mansion and see Darlington and his family. I would like to confirm if my marriage to him is real or not. Maybe my father was tricked by his friend, the one who had made all the arrangements.

I would not believe that I had been married off by my father's friend while pretending to be his son's wife. Upon my arrival in the city, I will definitely find out.

Looking through all of the pictures of Darlington and that gorgeous, fair-skinned woman makes me sad. I knew that going into another woman's relationship would be a condemnation of mine because I was not as beautiful and sophisticated as her. However, I was waiting to make a firm decision until I was certain of the whole truth.

As the car continued its hour-long journey to the city, I turned to face the back of the seat and relaxed. Soon after, I fell asleep in the back.
