2. His perfect deception

"Get lost, imposter." The security said as he tossed Loki out of the building and returned inside.

She stared after his retreating figure with mixed feelings. This was one of the men who had treated her respectfully in the past, knowing she was Glen's wife. How did her life turned to such a nightmare within a few hours? She still found it hard to believe.

On the afternoon of her fifth wedding anniversary she had signed the divorce papers, ruining what was supposed to be a beautiful memory forever. How could she ever think about the day she wedded Glen Robertson without remembering that it's on the same day she was forced to end the marriage?

Suddenly, Loki felt as though the past five years of her life had been on contract, and today was the expiring date.

Glen Robertson, chairman of Soft-Life Empire, has successfully scar her heart forever...

She was heartbroken that her husband cheated on her and was unremorseful about it. But she was even more infuriated because she hadn't been the one who ended it first. It pains her so much that he had still been the one to give her the divorce papers.

Loki felt upset because he even went as far as cheating on her with someone who looks like her.

Now how was she supposed to live her life without him when she had only known him and had been committed to him from her early youth? At twenty five years of age, how was she supposed to move on when she's only ever loved him? How could he ruin her in this manner and turn her to a divorcee at such early stage of life?

As these thoughts raced through her mind, Loki could only come to a conclusion; Glen's deception to her for five years was indeed perfect.

Her gaze drifted towards the top floor of the building where his office was located. And for a split second, she allowed herself to wonder on what might have been if she hadn't come to the office today.

Would she still be under his deception, loving him sincerely and passionately, and not having the slightest idea what he's been up to? Would it have taken a while before she found out he's been cheating? Or would she never have known? Or perhaps, would they get divorced somewhere in the future with her being the one to initiate it after finding out the truth?

However, the more she thought on these, the more she realized that their divorce was indeed inevitable as Glen had already prepared the documents ahead, which meant, it was part of his plan all along. She was the one who had been so gullible to not have noticed anything unusual.

There must have been signs, right? But she must have trusted Glen so much and considered him a perfect husband that she didn't see those signs. And because of this, Loki resented herself for being the slow, gullible one.

If she had known, if she had seen this coming, then she might have been prepared for it. And maybe then, it won't hurt this much.

Absentmindedly, she walked down the street feeling heavily depressed. Life seemed to have lost its meaning to her. And although her feet hurt because of the stiletto she had on, and the long distance she had covered in her absentmindedness, Loki kept on walking.

On several occasions in the past, she had come across posts, books and videos of heartbroken women crying and bitterly lamenting their painful experiences in the hands of egoistical, evil and scumbag men who classified themselves as 'alpha males', deriving great pleasures in oppressing women. Why? Because women are supposedly weak and can easily be trampled on by such men.

And except until today, Loki had never known or imagined how those women felt or even understood truly that such men really exists, because Glen had always been perfect in her eyes. She never knew he was a manipulative bastard and a scumbag like the rest of these men she's heard about.

Once again, the more she thought of it with the overwhelming pain in her heart, her soul was broken and anger surged within her.

She suddenly halted on her steps amidst the crowded street.

Men like this deserved to be taught hard lessons of their lives.

Her thoughts were distracted when someone bumped into her, causing her to lose her balance and fall.

Loki remained on the bare floor and her itchy eyes instantly gave way to let her tears roll down her cheeks. Her legs suddenly hurt more than before and it seemed like a perfect reason to burst into tears in public.

"I'm so sorry. Are you okay?" Someone was saying to her but she wasn't even listening.

For the first time since the reality of her husband's betrayal hit her, Loki allowed herself to cry out freely. The pains felt fresh and her heart seemed to be literally shredding to pieces.

She buried her face in her hands as her tears continuously flowed freely from her eyes. Someone passed by and dropped a clean handkerchief on her arm. She raised her teary gaze to see who it was but she couldn't tell because of the crowded place.

Pulling off her shoes, Loki helped herself up and wiped her eyes and face with the hanky. It felt strangely comforting and the scent of it was distinct; like mint and apples, yet it was welcoming.

Moments later, she sat quietly on a chair in a less packed area of the street, and observed the city while making plans mentally on what to do with her life the moment she's out of her matrimonial home.

The summer weather in DC today wasn't one she would forget in a hurry.

She dreaded going to the home she's lived in for five years, a home that's filled with the most beautiful memories of her life.

The fact that those beautiful memories she made in that home with Glen were built on deception greatly angered her. But Loki knew she had to go there for the last time. And even though it might have all been lies, she was at least happy while she was there.

"Oh my! Look who we have here." A masculine voice suddenly said in an intimidating tone. Loki raised her gaze and frowned at the sight of the three thug-like men before her.

"It's so nice to finally meet you, Ms. Colleen." One of them said, flashing a mischievous grin at her.

"Excuse me. Who are you?" Loki sat up, feeling wary of the men.

"We are sorry to interrupt your peaceful moment, but you must come with us right away." The first man said.
