Chapter 11
The look on her face made it obvious that she'd rather not be here right now, she wishfully prayed that the ground would open and swallow her up right this instant, And spit her up anywhere far away from where she was. “Hey," she greeted with a not-so-sincere smile on her face. "Good to see you...... Karl?"“Yeah, that's me"She hoped the look on her face wasn't betraying her words, there was nothing good about this development for her. Not at all. Jennie pointed a finger at Aliyah. "You know her?" Jennie asked surprised at the development, apparently, she was the only one here who didn't know Aliyah. It felt to her like she was getting left out."Yeah, she's...We went to the same college" Karl responded emphatically. Jennie's eyes traveled from Karl back to Aliyah. "How've you been Aliyah, It's been what? 5years? I never knew that you were staying here, Ben didn't mention anything about that to me” Karl paused, his eyes traveling to her feet, and he noticed her banded leg which

Chapter 12
Soon after Jennie and Karl left, Ben went upstairs, while Aliyah cramped herself inside the room. Her situation dawned deeper on her and she could feel a heavy and uncomfortable lump in her throat. She grew weary of assuming Ben's consideration, well aware of his indifference. His actions seemed determined to bring her down, mentally, and physically, regardless of who witnessed it. Fatigue overwhelmed her, and she yearned for a decent amount of sleep. Unconsciously, she traced her fingers along her feet.Arggh! She moaned as a tremor of pain surged from her leg, coursing through her body. She was able to move around freely because the painkiller had taken effect and she was now feeling the repercussions of it. The doctor's advice to not walk needlessly until she was healed was heavily flouted from the moment she returned to this hell hole, She had moved around too many times to count, not that it was her fault, It was all because of Ben's paltry antics. Her weakened foot mad

Chapter 13
The sudden creaking of the front door pierced the heavy silence in the living room. A young man, donned in a sharp black suit, confidently strode in. His features, a mix of determination and calmness, were accentuated by dark, neatly combed hair and piercing blue eyes. A subtle cologne lingered in his wake as he surveyed the room with a keen gaze. Aliyah who was in the living room was too lost in thought to notice the appearance of someone. The young man's eyes fell on the lady who stood in the middle of the room, he cleared his throat to get her attention, but she didn't spare him a glance. "Hello there," Chris finally spoke out, his voice thick and smooth as he stepped into the living room with a smile. Aliyah was caught off guard when she heard a voice behind her, she turned around and her gaze fell on the young neatly dressed man who had a calm smile on his face. "Hello," Chris greeted again after he didn't receive a response the first time. Aliyah cam

Chapter 14
Ben was visibly frustrated and didn't want to hear any more from Chris. Of course, he hadn't forgotten about the project held years back that claimed a lot of lives, it wasn't something he had done of intention, it happened—things happen. He did try to go back and examine what had gone wrong, and he realized every spot was filled with potholes and he could barely assume the cause. So how was he meant to atone for a mistake of which he has no idea about the root? But above all, he was sure of one thing he had said to the man, he felt no guilt regarding those deaths, that was an unforeseen circumstance and those people who paid with their lives all died because they were unlucky, it was nothing more than that. Chris might have come here hoping to coerce him into something big scheme of his, but since he had turned him down, he'd surely try to meet some other mafia groups and offer them the deal, but then that would be again his interest. He had no regrets about it because sooner or l

Chapter 15
Aliyah finished wiping Ben's shoes, and as soon as she did, he got up from the dining chair, casually instructing her to clear the table and wait in the living room. Following his directives, she cleared the table and wiped off the coffee that had poured onto the floor before returning to the living room. She slumped onto the couch, feeling a wave of fatigue washing over her. Running her fingers through her hair, she casually pulled it back into a bun with a scrunchie.A short while later, the distinct click of shoes echoed in the hallway, prompting Aliyah to look up. He rgaz fell on Ben who was descending the stairs, now dressed in an entirely different outfit. A subtle frown creased Aliyah's forehead. Why did he make her go through the trouble of cleaning his pants and shoes if he intended to change anyway? Was he finding some bizarre amusement in messing with her?She clenched her jaws and tried to keep herself from making any rude remark, cause somehow she was scared of what he m

The relentless task at hand had taken a toll on him, manifesting in a throbbing pain that pulsed through his head and heavy eyes that begged for respite.Seeking a momentary escape, he leaned back in his swiveling chair, allowing his head to rest against its supportive surface. His fingers gently massaged his temples as he felt the persistent ache in his forehead. He brushed his hands through his face from his forehead down to his chin. A fleeting desire for relief prompted him to rise and walk towards the bedside table.Opening the drawer, he retrieved a small container of pills. Popping a couple into his hand, he dry-swallowed them before turning his attention to a waiting glass of water. The cool liquid provided a brief reprieve as he downed it, momentarily easing the strains of the day.His relentless focus had been directed toward

Ben was seated in his office chair with his elbows placed comfortably on the desk and his chin resting on the back of his hands that were interlocked together. He saw how everything had played out at the announcement made by Chairman Zack, his face was coldly fixated on the screen as he stared at the TV in his office, it was as though he was seeing right through the screen.Although there had been a little issue, things ended up pretty much as he had expected, but still, he didn't even so much as smile, he just sat on his seat staring intensely at the screen. He had expected it and it had panned out how he wanted but this wasn't really of much importance because to him this was a common problem in the business world, people hoping to rake in as much profit as they could at the expense of trust and integrity was a common thing. Shortly after a knock was heard at the door. Knock knock"Come in," Ben said.It was Norman, he came in with a pad in his hand as he walked toward Ben's desk

Chapter 20
Karl spent almost twenty minutes in Ben's office, he sat calmly on the swiveling chair which was across from Ben on the table. After a while, there was silence in the room and Ben suddenly asked "What exactly did you come here for?" Karl was someone who could come into his office at any time he wanted—even without a reason, but Ben felt like there was something else he had to say other than exchange words with him. Karl clicked his tongue, "I did come here for something and it's a bit urgent, I thought I could speak to you about a few things." His expression turned serious and he stopped spinning the chair back and forth.Ben's brows furrowed in curiosity at his friend's next words. Karl glanced at Aliyah, after which Ben ordered her to go make some coffee for them."What's this about now?" "I've got something for you," Karl said as he brought out a file from a bag that he had brought with him, Ben's gaze followed the file that Karl handed out to him and he received it, partly c
