Chapter 2: Surprised Who My Mate Is

Disappointedly, Alpha Bolin looked at me, and shortly, tears started flowing from my eyes, already knowing there would never be a future with him. I was without a wolf and was too weak to be his mate, much less to be his Luna, the second leader of the pack.

As Alpha Bolin walked toward me, with each step he took, I felt my life fall apart, aware of what he was about to do now.

Alpha Bolin was supposed to be my hope for a better life, and now he isn't. How was I supposed to live without him?

"What's your name?" Alpha Bolin asked as he stood before me, ready to reject me.

He had to ask because I was without a wolf, and his wolf was unable to spiritually link to mine to know my name without me telling him.

I tried to move my mouth, but I felt as if I had no control over it.

"What's your name?!" he asked angrily, this time shouting.

"Melonie Starling," frightened by his shout, I say.

"Melonie Starling, I, Bolin Crescent, reject you as my rightful mate." His jawline tightened, and his arms rolled into a fist, squeezed angrily by each word.

Every word that departed from his mouth felt like salt thrown into an open wound, and I became so weak that my entire body shook.

Witnessing the pain of the rejection I'm going through, Alpha Bolin said, "You'd be a joke and unfit to be my Luna, so make it easier for yourself and also reject me as your mate."

It would be unbearable if I didn't. The pain of longing for him to love me back would be excruciating. No wolf is capable of doing it, especially witnessing their mate move on with another wolf.

I placed a hand over my heart, already suffering, that my mate chose to disown me, and my gaze lowered to the green grasses illuminated by the moonlight.

Though Alpha Bolin rejected me, it is so hard to reject him back. Never shown love before, he was supposed to be my first to experience how it feels, and tonight I was supposed to know what a true home felt like without being humiliated every day and treated like no one.

"As your alpha, I command you to reject me," he said in his alpha voice.

No wolf can fight to disobey an alpha voice, a trait only possessed by powerful alphas.

I felt my body taken over by his powerful command, and my head rose, not on its own, to face him. Tears blur my vision, and I'm no longer able to see him.

"I, Melonie Starling, also reject you, Bolin Crescent, as my rightful mate." I was forced to reject him.

Each word I formed felt like I was drowning, and I fell to my knees, catching my breath.

"Make sure no one knows you were ever my mate, or you'll face my wrath," Alpha Bolin warned me before he vanished into the night in the blink of an eye, and I fell onto my side, weeping.
