Chapter 4 - Kurt

All I wanted was to have a nice date night with my mate. Maybe spend more time making out than watching the movie. But nothing about my plans for tonight included any of the Syndicate, least of all this witch. No, seriously, my understanding is her mother was a witch.

“You think threatening my mate will get you anywhere? These males would be dead before they could touch her. And you will burn like the witches of old.” I growled. I could feel Godric’s rage and the fire he controls sparking at his fury.

“Big talk from a coward.” Noya sneered. “Get to your point. We have a date to get to.” Isis… no, that’s Bastet, rolled her eyes.

“Know your place, mutt.” Noya scoffed. “Hi pot, I'm kettle. You do realize you're a hybrid too? I can’t stand hypocrites.” Bastet shook her head.

Noya narrowed her eyes. “Oh, I know I’m a hybrid. But at least my mother was a witch, someone of power. And not some murderous hunter human scum.” She snarled.

“I’m bored. So either say what you came to say, or I show you and your merry band of scumbags what that murderous hunter taught me.” Bastet threatened, or rather promised.

Bastet and Isis are two sides of a coin. While Bastet is the bold, foul-mouthed, bitch who would cut your throat with a smile. Isis is the sweet, warm, and loving girl who would prefer not to get into a fight. It makes for a fascinating combination.

‘A very hot combination.’ Godric commented. On that, I can agree. It also makes it easier to know if Isis or Bastet is in control.

Noya rolled her eyes and looked at me. “Your choices are simple, Kurt. The best for all is that you choose me as your mate...” Noya started to speak.

She only got that much out of her lips, and suddenly my mate was no longer at my side. In a blink, she had Noya pinned with her claws digging into her throat.

“Kurt is ours, trash.” Bastet snarled. Godric was smiling, beaming with pride at our mate. I never doubted her abilities.

But with the Syndicate, it’s never a fair fight. The four males moved to try and get involved. “I don’t think so. I reject your offer. And you four….” I held my arms out and let the flames come forward, hitting each with a blast of fire.

“Are going to be the example of what happens to anyone that comes for my mate,” I growled, knowing my eyes were glowing as Godric was just as forward as I was. The four men howled in pain as they dropped to the ground rolling and removing their jackets to escape the flames.

“Ahh…” Isis grunted as Noya kicked her off her. I quickly moved to catch Isis before she stumbled too far back. “This isn't over. I gave you an easy out. You’ve chosen the hard way.” Noya growled just as she and the four males vanished.

Just like Seigfried and some of his pack did when they attacked the Christian ranch over two years ago. That at least answers the question none of us, not even Silvercloud, could answer.

“What just happened? Where did they go?” Isis questioned, blinking as she looked around. The smoldering remains of the males' jackets were the only sign they’d even been here.

“Noya is a half-breed witch. She can use magic. Apparently, she’s able to transport people similarly to your gift.” I answered, slipping my arms around her in the guise of keeping her steady.

“I don’t like her. Bastet, well, she wants her dead.” Isis frowned, looking at the spot Noya had just been.

“I don’t like her either. And Godric is on board with killing her. It was really hot that you… or I suppose Bastet went for her throat at her offer to be my chosen mate.” I teased, leaning to nip at her neck.

She wiggled slightly in my hold but really only tilted her head, giving me more access to her neck. “It wasn’t just Bastet. It would have been one thing if she was issuing a challenge. But to stand there and even suggest that you take her as your mate. It made my blood boil.” Isis sighed.

“I feel exactly the same. Noya and those males are lucky I didn’t burn them to a crisp for suggesting hurting you. You are mine. And no one else will ever do.” I assured her as I peppered her neck with kisses. The urge to mark her was so damn strong right now.

“Whoa hey… save that for dark and or private places.” Mikali’s voice taunted as he approached, holding his mate’s hand.

Annai was snickering behind her hand, green eyes twinkling with amusement. “Let them be. We were just as bad when we first met.” Annai sighed.

Isis blushed and moved just enough to create space. I don’t like or want space. “You make it sound like you stopped being all over each other.” I scoffed, rolling my eyes.

“Fair. So… we miss the bonfire?” MIkali asked, nodding to the smoldering jackets.

“Noya and some Syndicate males tried to start shit. We handled them, but they got away.” I shrugged.

“Start shit? Bitch had the gall to suggest you take her as a chosen mate. She’s lucky I didn’t shift and let Bastet rip her throat out.” Isis scoffed.

“Well damn. Look at you, Kurt. Went from pariah to hot commodity.” Mikali teased. Isis’s brow furrowed in that adorable way that made me want to kiss her.

“He’s talking about how in school, because of who I am, or rather who my father was, girls avoided me. So I was the least popular of our group.” I sighed.

“Well, those she-wolves are stupid to not have seen you for the amazing and handsome guy you are.” Isis snorted. I chuckled, slipping my arm around her.

“The only female who I want to think I’m amazing and handsome is you. The rest don’t matter. If I learned anything from David, it is that you don’t date while you wait to find your mate.” I chuckled.

“That’s a good point. And since we both have mates and are here to go on a date. Let’s head inside and do that.” Mikali suggested. “I want to enjoy my night off. Tomorrow will be a busy day for me. Luna has a lot of places to be.” he sighed.

“The price you pay for being the guard of our Luna.” I shrugged as we headed for the cinema. “Yeah. I mean, I don’t mind. It pays well. And I get along with her. But the pregnancy mood swings are hard to predict and prepare for.” Mikali sighed.

“Is David better about it? His mate has already had one pregnancy.” Isis asked. “A little but well, Luna is very different from his mate, and she’s carrying the next Alpha making her mood swings more volatile.” Mikali shrugged. We all laughed as we got our tickets and then our snacks.

“Alright enough talking about work. I am here to have a night out with my mate. Not to listen to him talk about work.” Annai groaned, her Russian accent coming in a bit thicker with her annoyance.

English is obviously her second language, but she’s fluent and living here the last two years, her accent isn’t as pronounced. But if you get her riled up, not only does the accent come out, but piss her off enough, and she’ll start speaking Russian.

“Yes, of course. Let’s go get seats. Maybe not in the same row or even side of the theater as them.” Mikali suggested with a naughty twinkle in his honey eyes. Isis certainly didn’t miss the implication. “I think that’s a great idea.” I smirked, took her hand, and headed for the far back of the theater.

Isis was blushing as she took our seats on the right side of the theater. I like how the theater has two-person seats along the sides, and then the middle is where they have the longer rows. So it’s just the two of us in our cozy spot in the back.

“You picked the back of the theater on purpose.” Isis shook her head as she took her jacket off and found a place for it and her purse. “Is it a bad thing I want to enjoy the movie uninterrupted with my mate?” I arched an eyebrow.

Okay, so my eyebrow is arched because I’m watching her bending to hang her jacket over the seat. God damn, her ass in those jeans is perfection. ‘It’s a great ass’ Godric nodded. See, Godric gets it. “No, I suppose not. Just remember we are in public.” Isis sighed as she settled into her seat.

“Now, if you are done checking my ass out, sit down. The movie is about to start.” Isis pointed to the seat next to her, smiling. I chuckled, putting drinks and our large popcorn down, and settled in next to her.

One thing I wish movie theaters did is getting rid of the middle armrest on the two-person rows. It just gets in the way of proper cuddling.

This is why I prefer streaming movies. Then we’d be comfy and cuddling on the sofa. Maybe next time.

She smiled and linked her arm with mine, taking my hand and threading our fingers together. “I love you, Kurt.” she whispered, pressing a kiss to my cheek before settling her head against my arm.

Godric was puffed up with happiness. She’s said it before, and I don’t think either of us will ever grow tired of hearing it. “I love you too, Isis. And I promise one day we will have a date that doesn’t involve a fight.” I smiled as the lights dimmed and the trailers started.
