CHAPTER 10 Shift

  Kian's POV

My eyebrow flew open at what was actually going on in front of me, and I felt a sharp thud in my heart.

Rhea was rasping in pain, and I knew what this was all about. She was transforming into her wolf - this shit fucking happens to first-time shifters.

Having constant pain as you notice the breaking of your bones, bending and pushing you down to transform into your wolf, your other half.

The elongation of the claws and the fur - all these are experiences, but as time goes on, you will get used to the changing.

Her next growl pulled me out of my thoughts, and she started stooping with her palms curled in a ball form, and I already knew what was next.

But unfortunately, I was not allowing that to happen. Once she changed to her wolf, she would be able to detect her real mate and possess her power, which I was not ready to risk at any moment from now.

Rushing forward, I noticed how blurry her eyes were. She seemed weak, and that was the perfect opportunity to strike.

Locking around me, that's when my gaze connected with an iron rod. A smile glazed my lips as I took a few strides and picked it up.

Knocking her in the head, she groaned out in pain before collapsing to the floor, putting an end to the transformation.

"Uh, uh…" I groaned, letting out a whiff. That was close.

Merely looking at her unconscious body on the ground, I walked toward her and stooped to her level.

"My sweet wife, how does it feel lying helplessly on the ground?" I laughed bitterly when tugging her hair behind her.

"Not even your wolf was there to save you, poor thing,"

"You can never transform, Rhea, not under my watch," I sneered, retorting coldly.

Standing on my feet, I spared her one last glance before walking out of the room toward the kitchen.

The foyer leading to the kitchen was empty, except for the guards mounted for security purposes on every damn corner.

As I inched closer, I began to hear some whispers and giggles from the kitchen. It seemed like people were in there!

  BANG!!

The smashing of the door against the embankment suddenly made everywhere quiet. I watched with a blank expression as they all slowly turned to stare at the direction of the sound.

The sudden widening of their eyes and fraying of their nerves couldn't go unnoticed.

"Our Alpha!" They greeted, their heads bowed submissively.

Ignoring them, I scanned the room, searching for the head maid of the kitchen. My eyebrow twitched slightly with displeasure before I refocused on the weak omegas in front of me.

"Where is Bela Ember?" I frowned, a hint of displeasure creeping onto my face, making it look even more intimidating.

The omegas nervously glanced at each other, waiting for one of them to speak first.

"I hate being ignored!!" I lashed out, causing them to jump in fear.

"She. She is not here, my Alpha," one of the omegas stammered.

"You all get out!!" I growled, causing them to rush towards the door in a panic.

"Wait," I said, causing them to halt in their tracks. I could sense their trembling bodies from where I stood.

"Call Bela Ember for me. I need her here in the next two minutes," I demanded harshly, leaving no room for argument.

I heard the door close, signaling that they had left the kitchen. I groaned in anger as memories of the past flooded my mind.

The agonizing and unbearable pain that my parents went through, their cries filling my head. I was still a teenager then and couldn't save them, especially from the evil hands of the Clawson.

The way he slaughtered them, his evil laugh, and the painful cries of my parents flashed before my eyes.

I growled in pain, rage surging through me like lava, stomping back and forth against the floor while waiting for Bela. I could feel the anger rising with every step I took. No matter what I did, the pain was still there, the endless scar that was carved deeply inside my heart. Slamming my curled hand forcefully on the kitchen countertop, a cracking sound was heard as I watched it break into pieces.

"Oh! My Alpha," and just in time, Bela walked in. I uncurled my fists to control my anger before slowly turning around to stare at her. She was standing at the door with her hand holding the doorknob while staring at the mess that I just created.

From the look of things, I guess that she was just entering now.

"Bela Ember," I called out, sounding severe.

"Yes, my Alpha. You seek my presence," she faltered with her face looking pale. Her gaze was indirectly still peering at the broken pieces from the countertop.

"Lock the door and step forward," I demanded.

"Huh?" she gasped, suddenly sounding nervous.

"Bela," my brow twitched slightly as anger flashed through my eyes. What is she afraid of? Not that she is even a good person, and I knew about her darker and deadly side. She just has to behave and shove away that pretense.

She slowly locked the door and walked towards me in a conscious step.

"No pretense, Bela Ember. I know you too well," I pointed out, causing her to relax with those fake expressions on her face fading away.

"Better," I smirked, earning a smile from her.

"What do you want me to do, Alpha?" she bowed her head slightly.

"I want you to prepare that dark medicine."

"Dark medicine? Is someone ill?" she asked politely.

"Not really," my evil smile sneaked in, "I will list the ingredients that you will be able to use."

The image of my lifeless parents flashed through my eyes, causing my face to harden.

"Get the bowl," I ordered with gritted teeth. She hurried and pulled out a black bowl.

The face of Rhea came into my view, but the evil laugh of her father twisted my heart and darkened my face. She is the daughter of the enemy, and so she has to pay!

"Bring in the wolfsbane and the mistletoe, add the cursed oil, and the dancing star bombs," I said, watching her mix and stir them at once with a nod.

She seems so focused. Tearing my gaze away from her, I gazed down at the little dark medicine inside the bowl.

I wonder how the taste will be, Rhea. I know that you will love it...
