Sixty One

I let out a heavy sigh as I rested my hands on the balcony railing, allowing the cool night air to wash over me. As I took in the view of the castle gardens, I couldn’t help but consider if I would still have this luxury in the days to come.

As I fell deep into a spiral of ‘what if’s’, a pair of strong arms found their way around my waist whilst the delicious scent of vanilla consumed my senses.

I rested my head against Nate’s firm chest, enjoying the close proximity between us. Moments like these could easily be taken for granted, I didn’t want to do that. I wanted every precious moment between us savoured before the battle came to a head.

“Everything will work out, little mate.” He whispered in my ear before placing a soft, gentle kiss on my shoulder. Sparks danced off my skin from the connection, reminding us of the bond we shared.

“I hope so.” I grumbled, half hoping Nate didn’t detect the layer of doubt in my tone.
