Chapter 17

I kept looking over my shoulder as I gripped my coat tighter around me and banged my hand on my best friend's door, not caring that it was late at night and she was probably fast asleep. I'm surprised none of her neighbour's have come screaming out of their apartments, cussing me out for such noise, but I needed to talk to her.

"I'm coming! I'm coming!" I heard her yell in frustration before I heard her turn the locks and the door opened. I just barged in, pushing her as I stumbled into her apartment, "Zara! Are you ok?" she asked me in a rush as she stepped outside of her apartment and looked around before she came in and closed and locked the door behind her.

She turned to look at me and I was shivering, not from the cold but from guilt and regret, "I did it," I said to her, trying to keep the bile from rising in my throat but I couldn't.
