Chapter 10

When I started eating, he had already cleared his plate and I regret not eating while he had been eating because his undivided attention was on me now. I could feel his eyes because he stared with intensity that I felt the hairs on the back of neck rise while I tried to ignore him.

I cleared my throat, trying to not choke on my words as I built up the courage to finally look at him and say something, "you're making me feel uncomfortable, Elijah," I told him but his face was blank and his eyes still held that intense stare.

He didn't say anything, but he held my gaze. I bit the inside of my cheek, unsure about what to do next, "me simply looking at you, makes you uncomfortable, Zara?" he asked me, filling his glass with even more champagne and then refilling mine for me.

"I-it's more like...yes, it makes me uncomfortable," I tried to talk but I couldn't find the words because he was still looking at me and I saw the
