Chapter 1

It was very early in the morning and it was harshly cold and windy, just like my heart was. I'll just say my heart was much colder. Even in the twenty five kilogram wedding dress, I still felt cold. The wedding dress was beautiful with laced long sleeves and beaded all over with pearls.

But I felt anything but beautiful.

The day you got married was supposed to be one of the happiest days of your life. You are supposed to feel euphoric and on top of the world but that was not the case for me.

Today would be the saddest day of my life because I had just being married off to an unknown man.

Well, Chase Wheeler wasn't precisely an unknown man. He was the most powerful Alpha in the werewolf world. He was greatly feared by all packs and also very respected.

People knew him for being ruthless and merciless. He cleared off anybody and anything that stood in his way. Even Alphas like him feared him and dared not to cross his path. So when one of my pack members killed his pack member in a fight, hell broke loose and he was ready to make our pack go extinct. He had the power to.

But our Alpha, also my stepfather, pleaded and offered to do anything to appease him and his pack. And to everyone's shock and to my own horror, Chase asked that I marry him, to give him a son that will continue his Alpha line.

Before I could even plead for my life and beg my stepfather not to marry me off to Chase Wheeler, he agreed to the deal. My stepfather, Jacob Foster, without hesitation married me off to someone I had never met before. Someone who was widely known for being heartless to even his pack members.

When the news spread that a member of our pack killed a member of the Dark Moon pack, everybody was scared to their pants. The Dark Moon pack are notorious for being vicious and unforgiving. They would never let the murder of one of their own go. They would surely take revenge. The entire community started living in fear of the Dark Moon pack barging into our houses and taking a pound of their own flesh. They were capable of doing that.

So when they finally came to see my stepfather for a peace pact, everybody was too relieved to even care that I was being used as a sacrificial lamb.

I cried and begged, but nobody listened to me. They would sacrifice me and my happiness than allow anything as much as scratch their pack members. I could vividly remember the cold and distant looks, my pack members, the Shadow Pack, had on their faces when I was being shipped away in the limousine Chase sent to get me. It was like I never meant anything to them in the first place.

I felt betrayed. I felt heartbroken. I felt shattered.

My dream, though as childish as it may seem, was to meet my mate and have a happily ever after with him. But that had been ruined for life because even though I meet my mate in the future, nobody would be reckless enough to go after Chase Wheeler's wife.

"Hey! Get down! We are here." A gruff voice jolted me from my train of thoughts. He was the driver of the limousine.

I raised my head to see that we had arrived at a huge mansion with high walls and a very wide gate.

The exterior was painted in butter yellow, which contradicted the black colours of the roofs.

It was the Wheelers Mansion. It was magnificent and beautiful.

"Are you deaf?! Get down, I said!" The man yelled at me again.

This time, I obeyed and slowly got down from the vehicle.

It was when I had come down that I noticed the train of ladies standing in front of the house.

They were dressed in black dress and white laced aprons so I assumed they were maids.

"Mrs Wheeler, we would escort you inside." One of them said and led the way.

When we entered inside the mansion, the interior was even more intimidating. The ceilings were high and the interior design was a monotonous shade of black and grey.

I knew the Wheelers were wealthy but I never knew they were this wealthy. The set of furniture were even gold plated and looked like they cost a fortune.

"Are you her?" A feminine voice echoed in the oversized living room.

I spun around and saw a young woman, she looked like she was in her late twenties. She was dressed in a white turtle neck teamed up with white pants. She looked elegant.

"Layla Foster, right? I'm Chase's sister. Quinn Wheeler." She introduced herself but before I could respond, she spoke up again.

"I wish I could address you by Wheeler, but sorry, I can't..." She paused, eyed me disgustingly and continued, "Because you're not fit to be called that name. Wheeler is a very reputable name, beared by powerful and influential people. Not weak, lowly, unknown people like you and those leeches in your pack."

She finished, with a dirty look on her face. She moved closer to me and held the collar of my pink dress.

"This is a wedding gift from me to you. Don't ever make the mistake of thinking you're one of us. You're nothing but a commodity my brother bought in a bad market" She whispered into my ear.

"Margaret! Come take her to her room!" Quinn called out and strutted away.

I blinked, trying to process everything my supposed sister in-law just said to me.

I already knew I was married off like a object but I didn't expect to meet this cold reception from Chase's family.

Margaret came and the middle aged woman introduced herself as the chief housekeeper of the house and she took me to my room.

My room was a large one, painted beige pink. That reminded me of how little these people knew about me. I hated pink.

I also noticed how the room had no window. I felt like a prisoner. The room was unnecessarily large and felt very cold.

I sat down on the bed, and sighed when my gaze fell on the huge diamond ring on my finger.

Reality was finally dawning on me.

I had really become Mrs Wheeler.

Quinn called me a commodity earlier on and I had to admit that she was right. I might be wearing a diamond ring which indicated that I was Chase Wheeler's wife but that doesn't change the fact that I was bought like a piece of commodity.

Tears escaped from my eyelids and I quickly wiped them off when I heard a knock on the door.

The person who knocked didn't wait for a response before opening the door ajar and walking in.

A young girl, dressed in the maid uniform, stood at the entrance, sizing me up.

"When I heard that Master got married to a member of the Shadow pack, I was disappointed and didn't expect much. But now seeing you in person, I'm even more disappointed. How can a person be this ugly? So ugly, with no poise at all." She clicked her tongue in mock pity and moved closer to me. "Anyways, Master called to say, there is going to be family dinner tonight. So I'll be preparing you for the dinner. He hates to see his women looking unkempt. Ugh, stop looking at me with your hideous blue eyes!" She muttered the last part and walked out.

It was now officially established that everybody in this house hated me.

And I was finally going to meet Chase Wheeler. The most powerful and most feared Alpha. Also my husband.
