Chapter 4 - Amelia

I scream at the top of my lungs. Lily is the first to rush into my room.

“What happened? Are you okay?”

“Nothing, just a nightmare. I just… I just thought about how…” tears begin to stream down my cheeks, “about how Lorenzo killed that man at the restaurant.”

“I'm sure whichever reason he kills is to make him not to look weak. He has to ensure his dominance and make sure everyone respects him.”

“I'm so scared Lily,” I hug her and bury my head on her chest. “He's going to kill me.”

“Lorenzo is not going to kill you unless… you betray him. You wouldn't betray him though.”

“Yes, I would.”

Lily's body goes tense. “What do you mean?”

“I'm going to betray him, Lily. He's a monster. He kills without even blinking!”

“Please, stop shouting. Lorenzo might hear you.”

“I don't care anymore! Why do I have to live with this?”

The chiming of my phone distracts us both. I pick my phone to check the message and my face quickly brightens up at the content.

“What's that?” Lily asks.

“Help me choose a formal wear. I'm going for an interview.”

“Interview?” Lily's eyes widens, “your wedding is in two days. We have to go shopping today. Does Lorenzo know about this?”

“He doesn't have a right to stop me, and yes, we'll still be shopping today. Its 6am, I have to be there before 7.”

“I'm just looking out for you,” Lily exhales. “Please be safe,” she says and stands. I only nod.

Lily helps me choose a form-fitting dark sheath dress with no visible seam that clearly outlines my hourglass figure.

I step into the shower and rush through my bath. It didn't take long before I am fully dressed, ready to go for the interview at Berg oil where I had submitted my vitae sometime ago.

I shut the door behind me and step into the hallway.

“Where are you going?” I hear Lorenzo's deep voice at the end of the hallway. I spin to find him standing with arms crossed. Lily bows and leaves.

“I'm called for an interview at Berg oil. I submitted my application sometime ago.” I am angry that am explaining where am going to him. Now, I answer to him.

“And you didn't think to tell me?” He scoffs, “dressed like that?”

I stare down at my dress but I see nothing wrong with it. “What's wrong with my dressing?” I ask sharply.

“Everything, Amelia. You belong to me now and I will make decisions for you and my decision now is—you are going nowhere.”

“You promised…” I swallow hard, “you promised not to make any protest while I pursue my dreams.”

“A promise with a condition that you are not compromised.” He walks over to me.

“Am I? Do I look compromised?”

“You are not going for that interview dressed like a cheap slut.” Before I know it, he pulls me back to my room and begin to move through my wardrobe.

“What are you doing?”

“Finding a better dress for you.”

“There is nothing wrong with my dress.”

He tosses a long jacket to me. “I won't let someone else point out your curves. Its either you wear that jacket or change the dress entirely or—forget the interview. I can take care of us. I have the money.”

“Fine!“ I slid the cream jacket over my body and turn to leave.

“Leo will go with you too.”

“What? I'm going for an interview not a club. Why is he going with me?”

“I won't repeat myself, Amelia. Don't force me to, and be back before 9am for the shopping, otherwise you'll lose all chances of stepping out of this house.” He walks out.

I sigh and let a tear drop on my cheek. Stop it, you'll ruin your makeup, I console myself. I lightly wipe away the tear.

I walk out of the room. I feel a wave of anger when I notice Leo following closely behind. “Why don't you find something else doing instead of following me around like a loser who needs help.”

“It's my duty to the boss,” Leo only says.

“I'm only being a gentleman because we are not legally married yet. I'll cease to be a gentleman after our wedding night. So you better watch out.”

I hear Lorenzo's voice as I walk down the stairs.

I take that as a threat. Something I know I can't avoid.
