I scream at the top of my lungs. Lily is the first to rush into my room.
“What happened? Are you okay?”
“Nothing, just a nightmare. I just… I just thought about how…” tears begin to stream down my cheeks, “about how Lorenzo killed that man at the restaurant.”
“I'm sure whichever reason he kills is to make him not to look weak. He has to ensure his dominance and make sure everyone respects him.”
“I'm so scared Lily,” I hug her and bury my head on her chest. “He's going to kill me.”
“Lorenzo is not going to kill you unless… you betray him. You wouldn't betray him though.”
“Yes, I would.”
Lily's body goes tense. “What do you mean?”
“I'm going to betray him, Lily. He's a monster. He kills without even blinking!”
“Please, stop shouting. Lorenzo might hear you.”
“I don't care anymore! Why do I have to live with this?”
The chiming of my phone distracts us both. I pick my phone to check the message and my face quickly brightens up at the content.
“What's that?” Lily asks.
“Help me choose a formal wear. I'm going for an interview.”
“Interview?” Lily's eyes widens, “your wedding is in two days. We have to go shopping today. Does Lorenzo know about this?”
“He doesn't have a right to stop me, and yes, we'll still be shopping today. Its 6am, I have to be there before 7.”
“I'm just looking out for you,” Lily exhales. “Please be safe,” she says and stands. I only nod.
Lily helps me choose a form-fitting dark sheath dress with no visible seam that clearly outlines my hourglass figure.
I step into the shower and rush through my bath. It didn't take long before I am fully dressed, ready to go for the interview at Berg oil where I had submitted my vitae sometime ago.
I shut the door behind me and step into the hallway.
“Where are you going?” I hear Lorenzo's deep voice at the end of the hallway. I spin to find him standing with arms crossed. Lily bows and leaves.
“I'm called for an interview at Berg oil. I submitted my application sometime ago.” I am angry that am explaining where am going to him. Now, I answer to him.
“And you didn't think to tell me?” He scoffs, “dressed like that?”
I stare down at my dress but I see nothing wrong with it. “What's wrong with my dressing?” I ask sharply.
“Everything, Amelia. You belong to me now and I will make decisions for you and my decision now is—you are going nowhere.”
“You promised…” I swallow hard, “you promised not to make any protest while I pursue my dreams.”
“A promise with a condition that you are not compromised.” He walks over to me.
“Am I? Do I look compromised?”
“You are not going for that interview dressed like a cheap slut.” Before I know it, he pulls me back to my room and begin to move through my wardrobe.
“What are you doing?”
“Finding a better dress for you.”
“There is nothing wrong with my dress.”
He tosses a long jacket to me. “I won't let someone else point out your curves. Its either you wear that jacket or change the dress entirely or—forget the interview. I can take care of us. I have the money.”
“Fine!“ I slid the cream jacket over my body and turn to leave.
“Leo will go with you too.”
“What? I'm going for an interview not a club. Why is he going with me?”
“I won't repeat myself, Amelia. Don't force me to, and be back before 9am for the shopping, otherwise you'll lose all chances of stepping out of this house.” He walks out.
I sigh and let a tear drop on my cheek. Stop it, you'll ruin your makeup, I console myself. I lightly wipe away the tear.
I walk out of the room. I feel a wave of anger when I notice Leo following closely behind. “Why don't you find something else doing instead of following me around like a loser who needs help.”
“It's my duty to the boss,” Leo only says.
“I'm only being a gentleman because we are not legally married yet. I'll cease to be a gentleman after our wedding night. So you better watch out.”
I hear Lorenzo's voice as I walk down the stairs.
I take that as a threat. Something I know I can't avoid.
Leo halts the car in the company's garage and I quickly step down. I watch him adjust his suit while waiting for me to lead the way.“Keep your distance,” I warn as I take one last look at my outfit. The idea of putting on such a long jacket over such pretty dress just to obey Lorenzo force my fists to clench.I step into the large lobby with white marble flooring and approach a brunette at the other side.“Hi, welcome to Berg oil company. How may I help you?" the brunette asks with a smile.“I'm here for an interview. I got a mail this morning,” I say hesitantly.“Your name, please."“Amelia Clayton."The brunette punches some keys on the keyboard and looks up after few seconds. “Take the elevator to floor sixteen, room ten. The CEO is there already."CEO? I made to ask but bite back the question. “And good luck Ms Amelia." I smile at her, then I notice her ogle at Leo. I want to keep quiet to know if Leo would be thrown out but its of no use, its either I end up not coming back to B
Mate?My wolf perk up with great interest as soon as the lady step into my office. It is the first time I get that feeling after two whole years. After facing crude rejection two years ago, I lost all hopes of getting another mate as there was none forthcoming. I fully focused on my oil business. I am only a weak omega, considered incapable of protecting his mate when the time comes.Mate? My wolf calls again and just then, I look up to find a gorgeous blond walk into my office. My eyes scans her from legs to head and I just couldn't stop staring and admiring the elegance the moon decides to bring to me.I feel my wolf, Sphinx look through my eyes to stare at the lady. Sphinx took to the name when we went for a tourist vacation in Egypt and decided he'll go by the name.My eyes meets the lady's, which are sexily greenish-brown. Those hazel eyes make me go numb for what feels like hours.I need my mate, Sphinx growls. I suppress him. She's going to be my employee and I have to maintain
I know Leo must have seen and misinterpreted the complicating position I was in with Neil and he is definitely going to tell Lorenzo and then, I’ll be in trouble. I might not secure this job then.I walk behind Leo in thoughts. He holds the car door open for me and I slip in, making sure to look peripherally at his impassive face. I swallow hard. How do I start to explain things to him?He slips into the car and starts the engine. After few minutes of driving on the road, I clear my throat. Better to say whatever I have to say before we get home. “Look Leo, I almost fell to the floor...”He jerks the car to a stop in the middle of the road and sharply turns to me. My heart begin to pound roughly against my chest. “Did he push you?”“No... I mean, I tripped and I almost fell but he, the CEO saved me.”“I thought as much. You’d never cheat on Lorenzo unless you want to die,” Leo says and steer the car. I exhale partly in relief and partly because of nervousness and anxiety; he might sti
I clench my teeth in anger and fold my fingers to form a fist. I'm sure I must have ceased the free passage of blood to my fingers with such tightness. I look away from her. This is no time to reunite with someone as shrewd as her. "I came to see you," Mirabel says. Her cynical voice got Sphinx snarling. I try to suppress him as he makes attempts to push out. "Why do you want to see me? Does your mate know about this?" I try to remain calm. Hit the bitch already. Stop talking to her! Sphinx growls on seeing the mark still visible on her nape, something that infuriates him the more. "He died..." So? Sphinx flares, barking dangerously, almost tampering with my own voice. "So?" I ask. "In a pack war. The alpha of Bezos pack killed him and took the weak wolves of the pack as his work slaves. I barely escaped. It was a friend who saved me from the pack." How is that our business? Sphinx growls. "How is that our..." I gulp. Ah! I won't repeat what this wolf is saying. "How is that m
"Watch where you're going," the man shouts and continue on his way.Lily helps me up and in a blink, I sight Leo grabbing the man by his jacket and shoving him next to the wall of the nearest building."Who sent you?" He asks through gritted teeth. The man's eyes widens, his chest begin to rise and fall in fear and shock. "Do you have any idea who you just knocked to the ground?""N-n-no," the man stutters. I can clearly hear his ragged breaths and I feel he must have wet his pants. "I'm so sorry. I should have watched where I was going. It's my fault.""You just disrespected the capo of Chicago." Leo's grip on the man gets tighter. "What's your name?"The man begins to sweat. I feel for him. He didn't do any heavy crime. He only bumped into me."G-Gaith Keller.""Where do you live?""Thompson street, f-few blocks away."Leo lets Gaith go and he runs so fast that we are unable to see him anymore within seconds."Are you alright?" Leo asks and holds up my arms to see if there's any in
I know Amelia is going to do something silly after I overheard her conversation with her mum.I wrap my arms around her and turn her back to the stairs. She kicks. She screams. But I am too strong for her."Let me go!"I ignore her and take her back to her room. I push her to the bed and crouch over her. My hands pins her arms to the bed while my legs holds hers strongly as I force her to look at me. Her lips quiver as she try to fight back tears."Cry all you want, Amelia. This is your life now. Don't try to escape it. I won't be merciful the next time.""You can do whatever you want! I am not afraid of you!""You will be when I give you a taste of who I truly am."I gulp when my eyes move to the bulge on her chest. I'll wait.I slowly get down from her and take one more look at her. She is even more beautiful in her disheveled hair."I have to take care of the Gaith who dares disrespect my property.""Let him be. Don't be a bloody killer," she begs."Well, of course, I'm a bloody ki
Thoughts flood my mind as I drive home late that night. My heart feels heavy. My throat feels like there is a huge spiky lump in it, trying to choke me. Is this how I'm going to lose my second chance mate and remain mateless? Am I fated to be mateless? How do I get my mate who is soon to be lawfully wedded to the most dangerous mafia in Chicago? If we can't get her peacefully, we'll get her forcefully, Sphinx grumbles. How do we get her forcefully? Can't you see she's someone's wife?Don't tell me you're cowering for a mere human! I won't lose my mate again! You have to fight for what belongs to you.I blame the moon for putting me in such a complicating position. Even Amelia is scared. She can't even stand up to Lorenzo, let alone me who doesn't even have any relationship with him. How do I get Amelia to believe she's my mate? Humans don't know what it means to have a mate. Then, convince her. Get her to love you. Do all that it takes.Lorenzo will never back down…Cut the crap! Sphi
Just jump! Jump down the cliff! I yell at Sphinx who is still trying to figure out a plan.I'll rather face the feral alpha than jump down the cliff. We don't even know if there are other dangerous rogues down there. The rustling of leaves become much louder and force Sphinx to be alert. The wolf's barking growls comes even closer as he appears from the thick covering of leaves. Then the alpha growls, loudly at first until he begin to whimper. Then, I realize it. He's hurt. It's a painful growl.I look down to his paw and notice he is bleeding profusely with strong iron stuck in his right paw. He just stepped into a trap. Was it there when Sphinx passed? How did Sphinx manage to avoid the trap?I saw the trap if that's what you're thinking. He was just desperate that he didn't watch his step, Sphinx says. I could sense his pride as we watch the alpha struggle with the trap. The traps in the woods are set by the wolf hunters. Operation wipe out wolves. The alpha wolf whimpers. He growl
