A Letter

Kayden's POV

Life had been hell for me, nothing was working out and nothing I did was making any sense. Ever since the rogues attacked, my image had been falling like a dead body being thrown off a cliff.

And if I didn't do anything about it then it would crash into the ocean and sink to the bottom without restrictions.

Nothing was working. Nothing at all. And I'm so grateful to Melanie, she has been my biggest support but I couldn't help but feel useless in these trying times.

Being the alpha of the full moon pack, I had a duty to protect my pack and the rogues were proving to be more powerful than my men and it was a massive disadvantage. With a strike, they should be dead but one would have to strike them three times before they died. And some who were extremely stubborn still put up a fight even after the third strike.

We had concluded that they were fortified with either magic or a curse but it didn't help matters either way. My pack was beginning to doubt my ability to rule properly and this caused me to look for a solution.

So I went to see the pack's sage. She was the only one that could help me.

"Sage, greetings." I paid respect to her as she hummed with her eyes closed, deep in meditation. I had always had respect for her, she was the one who used to give me free candy when I was a kid.

I started my training very early so I didn't get to enjoy a lot of things, except for Melanie and the free candy that she said she got from nature. She called them fruits but they were dried so they were very easy to hide and Melanie and I would eat them in secret after training.

"Kay…" she opened her eyes to reveal a sweet smile, "it seems your troubles have brought you here." She hummed again and told me to sit in front of the offering she was preparing for the moon Goddess,

"Yes sage, I'm helpless, you must have a solution for me. I cannot lose my pack to a bunch of rogues!" The emotions overwhelmed me and I had to force myself to calm down, "I apologize for raising my tone,"

"I know you're bothered Kayden, I understand you." She closed her eyes and there was silence for about three minutes before she opened them again, "I do have a solution for you but it is very difficult to do."

"I will do anything to keep my people safe!" I was eager and I even moved closer to her just to hear what she had to say,

"You need to find your mate." And her words pushed me back a bit in shock, "and you know Melanie is not your mate." Another hard hitter.

My head was hung as I processed her words, "yes I do know that but she is my love." I defended her, Melanie has put her life on the line multiple times just to keep me and my pack safe and it is something she would never stop doing. I loved her a lot and I would never leave her for anything or anyone.

"Unfortunately your love won't help you keep you and your integrity in check. You need to find your mate, your destiny, and full power are tied to her. If you find her, you will unlock your full potential…" she paused for a while before her eyes softened, "she is the only one that can unleash the rawness of the gift the moon Goddess has blessed you with. She is the key to the lock."

"But how do I find her? I don't even know what she looks like!" I whined, something I always did in her presence.

"The only thing I saw is an unusual being, so she must look very unusual. If you don't find her on time, you will continue to get weaker and weaker, time is of the essence and your life's at stake. You're tied to her and need to be near her, understand?" She was firm with me and I squeezed my eyes to shut back the tears,

"Understood." I paid my respect and left her little abode, the journey back home was long but at least I had a sense of direction now.

"My son, welcome." Mother greeted me with the best smile in the universe, I kissed her before pulling her into a deep embrace, "what did Avery say?" She always called the sage by name because they had been friends for a very long time.

"I need to find my mate, she is connected to Xane and me, she is the only one that can help us now," I admitted sadly, it made me remember that even an alpha is nothing without his mate.

"And we shall look for her." Mother comforted me and that was how we began the search, and it took months but every woman that I met was not the one I was supposed to call mate.

I couldn't hide it from Melanie for so long, she caught wind of the situation and came to talk to me about it,

"So you're planning to get rid of me already?" The hybrid woman that I had known since little stood at my door with a cocky smile, "do you really think I would fly out of your life so easily?" She sashayed toward my body and I couldn't help but admire her in her seductive lace dress.

Melanie was the Luna of the second most powerful clan, a mix of wolf and black magic, her father being the wolf falling in love with a powerful witch. Her skin was as white as snow and her hair blood red, she had claws for nails and a beauty mark near her eyes.

She was the most beautiful thing I ever laid my eyes on.

"Melanie," I wanted to explain till she cut me off,

"I understand what's going on Kayden, and I support you." She stunned me with her words and my eyes dilated with love, "but when you do find her, let her know that I was here first and if she wants a piece of you then she and I have to be at peace, or I would tear her to pieces." She raised her head In pride and her dramatic effect forced a laugh out of my throat.

"Who can take your place Mel? It's just not possible." I loved her so much, I would do anything for her, she was my pride and even if one day I woke up and I'm not an alpha anymore, she would always be my Luna.

I dragged her slender frame closer to mine to embrace her and she placed a loving kiss on my jet-black hair, she was my everything. And as much as I wanted to stay with her at that moment, I had a meeting to attend.

Yes, the meeting. I had received a letter from a minor pack months ago but I didn't pay any attention to it because I was busy searching for my mate, I was desperate to find her and I forgot about a lot of things but now that my hope has dimmed, I'm more relaxed and dividing my time appropriately.

I was to meet the leader of the pack this afternoon and I needed to get ready. She helped me get ready of course, and dressed me up in pure blue and gold royalty, she always made me feel I was more royalty than I was. My only hope is that the Alpha of this minor pack was reasonable.

The letter was a letter of help and I'd they didn't have anything good enough to offer me then I wouldn't be interested in anything he had to say. The Eclipse pack. I had never heard of any pack like that but sure they were a minority and if they had good resources, I would take over the pack. And he would get protection, it was a good enough deal.

"Is the Alpha here?" I asked one of my men and he nodded briskly, "good, bring him in, I don't have a lot of time to waste." My blue eyes were cold and hard but they softened at the thought of Melanie. I wanted to be in her arms again, she was so comfortable and I didn't have to be all 'hard guy' around her.

But the image of her is broken when a hypnotic scent wafted into my nose,

'What is that?' Xane, my wolf was usually quiet spoke up with excitement in his voice, It was an aphrodisiac. Very calming but sexualizing.

"I don't know but it smells amazing!" I voiced out, thank goodness I was in solitude, or I would be labeled crazy. But back to the scent, it was a mixture of lavender and rose with a bit of thyme, it was perfect and it was making my mouth water.

I didn't want to have the meeting with the alpha anymore, I was leaving the courtyard, I'm sure it must be Melanie, I wonder what she must be making this time. I was leaving till I felt a tug at my heart.

The mate bond.

"Mate!" Xane growled as my eyes connected with the most unusual creature I had ever seen.
