Chapter 1

Layla's pov

"What's your name?" A man who looked like he was in his mid 40s asked, dressed in a butler's uniform, face expressionless and stoic making me rethink my decision to work in this house. But thinking about my little sister, I had no choice but to be strong.

"My name is Layla Williams sir" I replied, bowing my head respectfully.

With my head down, my face twitched non stop, sweat trickling down my back, but I made sure to keep my body composed. I couldn't afford to miss this job, I had to pay for my little sister's school fees and also, our house rent is due.

"It shows in your resume that you've worked as a maid before, a nanny to be precise, right Ms Williams?"

"Yes sir" I said, raising my head slowly.

"Okay, you're hired. You'll be in charge of serving Mr Damon, you'll be his personal maid, you can start tomorrow." The butler said, stretching out a piece of paper with things I should know about Mr Damon.

Huh???

My mind went blank, 'Mr Damon? No no, I can't be his personal maid, I heard he's a very dangerous man, none of his personal maids ever last up to two weeks. Why does it have to be him?' I thought, still shocked and lost in thought.

"Ahem"

Hearing the sound of the butler clearing his throat, I came back to my senses, "Oh sorry, but there seems to be a mistake, I signed up to work as a cleaner" I said.

"We need an extra maid since the last one quit, and you're perfect for the job. It shows you have a lot of patience when taking care of someone and that's exactly what we need, but if you're not up for it we can hire someone else." The butler said hurriedly, clearly not having much time on his hands.

"No, I can do it, thank you so much" I said hurriedly, taking the piece of paper from his hand. I really need the money, I can't afford to go look for another job and waste more time.

Breathing deeply, I looked around and saw the other ladies looking at me scornfully, hatred visible in their eyes. Well, I understand why they would hate me, most of them are only here to try their luck to see if they could catch Mr Damon's eyes, while the others are here for the high pay, just like me.

"Hi, I'm Mia, you're Layla right?"

"Huh?" Still lost in thought, I asked distractedly.

"You're Layla, right?" Mia asked, giggling because of the way I acted.

"Oh right, I'm Layla and you are...." I replied, forgetting the name she just mentioned. Arrgh, I was never this slow, what's wrong with me today.

"I'm Mia, I also just got hired. I hope we could be friends, you look cute with your glasses" Mia said, smiling.

Using my index finger to set my glasses, I replied "Sure, we could be friends" It's better to get acquainted with someone.

Picking up my things, I checked the time in my phone. "Shit, I have to start going" I mumbled.

"Umm, I've got to go now Mia, we'll see tomorrow" I said.

"Oh okay, see you tomorrow." Mia replied, smiling brightly. She sure knows how to smile.

'Ahhh, I made it on time' I thought, breathing deeply in relief.

"Layla!!!"

Looking up, I saw Ava coming out of her kindergarten, skipping happily. Spreading my arms, she jumped on me and I picked her up.

"How was school today, Ava?"

"It was fine, we learned how to draw today. I drew a flower for you and also a butterfly, we also learned how to count and and...."

Listening to her chatter about her day was like therapy to me, she's so adorable and cute, I'm so glad she's by my side.

Getting home, I made sure she had her bath and ate before going to bed. Picking up the piece of paper I got from the butler, I scan through it and memorized everything, I was a fast learner.

Ring ring

Hearing the sound of my alarm ringing, I stood up to make breakfast. Finally done with everything, I took my bath and set out to work after dropping Ava at school.

Breathing deeply, I looked at the mansion in front of me. Starting today, this would be my work place, I have to work hard and not get fired like the other maids.

"Good morning, Mr butler" I greeted the butler, ready for today's work.

"Morning, Ms William. Mr Damon is on a business trip and will be back next week, but you can start with cleaning his room and study." The butler said before showing me the way to the master bedroom.

The maids were already busy with their work. climbing up the stairs, I saw some of the maids giving me the side eye. Fixing my glasses, I ignored them and kept on following the butler till we got to a large door.

"This is the master bedroom, keep it clean till Mr Damon comes back, like you saw in the paper I gave you." The butler said before leaving.

"Time to work" I said to myself before opening the door and stepping into the room.

"Wow, this room is bigger than my entire house" I said in awe.

Looking at the soft bed, I felt my mouth water. 'Should I? no I probably shouldn't' I thought to myself, but before I could even stop myself, I ran to the bed and fell on it.

It was so soft and smells nice, maybe I should just take a thirty minutes nap, I'm fast at cleaning so no one would notice.

One hour later

Shit

Was the first thing that came to my mind when I woke up. 'Hope I wasn't caught. Wait, if I was seen by anyone they would have woken me, phew' I rambled to myself before breathing a sigh of relief.

Getting up hurriedly, I arranged the bed and started cleaning, there was nothing for me to do really, everywhere was sparkling but it was said that my boss is a neat freak, I've got to clean his room everyday.

"Finally I'm done" I exclaimed after finishing with the study room, I should probably go downstairs to eat lunch. I haven't seen Mia though, I guess she didn't come today.
