A birthday disaster

Sophia watched as Bryce approached, his charming smile and confident stride making her instincts go on high alert. She turns to Harriet, her mind racing.

Harriet simply watched as they went back and forth. Sophia looked completely aggravated. She observed Sophia's tense posture and guarded expression.

She returned to Harriet after Bryce had gone. Sophia forced a smile.

“What was that about?” Her eyebrows furrowed.

Sophia forced a casual tone, "Oh, Bryce? He's just a contractor I worked with on a project. He didn't meet my expectations, so I cut ties with him. That's all."

Harriet's face wrinkled, "Okay. If you're sure that's all."

Sophia's expression turned stiff, but her voice was firm and defensive, "Yes, Harriet, I'm positive. Let's just drop it, okay?" She asserted, reading Harriet's suspicions more.

Harriet sensed her unease. She decides to leave it be and not press the issue further. Her curiosity piqued but they had just kissed and made up so there was no need to drag it.
