Vivian sat on the aeroplane, looking down through the window at the floating masses of clouds drifting serenely beneath.

The plane was so much higher up in the sky now, so the rooftops of the houses were no longer in view. She flexed the gold watch on her wrist to check the time; it was exactly half past 7 p.m.
