Scarlett paced around her penthouse, frustration evident in her furrowed brow. Her attempts to call Adrian had been met with the cold reality of being blocked. The silence on the other end of the line echoed the growing distance between them. She missed him, and the worry gnawed at her.

Determined to bridge the gap, Scarlett decided to call her mother. Vivian answered after a few rings, her voice laced with tiredness.

"Hello, Scarlett. What is it now?" Her tone was one of indifference.

"Mom, I need a few things from home that I forgot. Could you please find a way to bring them over? Please?"

Scarlett tried to keep her desperation hidden. Her mother hesitated for a moment, weighing the request.

"Why can't you get them yourself? It's not my responsibility to cater to your forgetfulness."
