"Get dressed, we're going out." Cameron walks into the room, he doesn't spare me a glance and starts stripping out of his clothes, the sight is so marvellous that I even drool although I have seen him naked countless of times. "Why are you still seated?" He suddenly paused and faced me with a glare.
I sober up on the spot, "I'm sorry, I'll do that now.. wait.. what should I wear?"
"Just don't dress like a maid."
I don't know what that means but I head for the closet to put together whatever I can find. I pick out a white dress I'm a hurry, it is barely above my knees with an audacious split in the middle.
"What's taking so-" he stops half way when I step into the room, his gaze sweeps me over in a split second, his expression tells me all I need to know but still I would like to hear directly from him.
"How do I look?" I question hoping to get a compliment.
He breaks eye contact coughing, "not bad."
"Yeah, sure." I murmur.
We took off in his car, he did not bother to let me know where he was taking me and I didn't ask, the whole ride was an awkward silence. He arrived at a fancy building, drove in and parked in a corner.
"Get out." He spat as the car engine died off. I wasted no time in kicking the door open, a warm breeze engulfed me. While I was busy getting lost in moment I saw Cameron walk away in the other direction and I ran after him.
"Wait up!" I yelled but he didn't slow down. He got past the security without a hitch but when it got to my turn they held me back.
"Who are you miss?" The short one questioned eyeing me like I was a nobody.
"We're together!" I screamed at the top of my voice.
The security man did not appear to believe and wanted to probe further when a voice made him halt.
"Aren't you Cameron's new bride?" A woman dressed in red emerged from behind. The security guards immediately stepped aside looking apologetic.
"I'm sorry but do I know you?"
She smiled sweetly, "my name is Becky and I was Cameron's previous situationship." Her hand was out for me to grab but I remained frozen in my spot, completely bewildered at her audacity.
Becky took my hand pulling me with her, "let's just go in then."
Loud music clouded my hearing as we trailed into the room, different people were scattered in every corner with the lights spinning red, I looked around in search of Cameron but much to my disappointment I could not find him.
"Over there." She pointed and I trailed my eyes in the direction of her fingers. Cameron could be seen standing next to a gorgeous woman, her body alone was fire. Only a side view of her face is revealed but it's enough to make me question my entire worth.
Becky drew closer and for some reason I did not mind at all eager to hear about this mystery woman, "her name is Helen, she's the daughter of the vice president and the only woman Cameron has ever dated in public, they were going to get married two years ago but suddenly called it off no one knows why."
A pang of jealousy hit me as I watched her punch his chest while giggling, Cameron also laughed with her. I wonder what's so funny. "Wait, why are you telling me this?" I was grateful for the information but smelled a rat.
"Because I feel like you might want to know." She shrugged, "even though your marriage is fake it must hurt to see him with another woman like that right?"
Wait- "how do you know our marriage is a fake?" Did Cameron tell her?
"Oh hunny." She laughed, "any woman who has been in his bed knows that Cameron is not the type to settle for one woman. If even Helen could not keep him, who are you to try?"
Damn, her words stung like bee and I couldn't bear to listen for anymore second. A waiter walked by, I picked a cup off the tray and trashed the contents down my throat. I had no idea what it was, but alcohol is just what I need right now.
I was seating outside slurring drunk when I felt someone occupy the space next to me. My vision was so blurry I could hardly make out what he looked like so I gave up trying.
"Why are you sitting here all alone?" The stranger asked, he had a fine voice I noticed but Cameron's is better.
"Nobody wants me anyway." I said sad, watching Helen and Cameron from afar made me nauseous that I just had to step outside.
"Why would he bring me here only to flirt with another woman?"
"Who is he?" Stranger asked.
"My husband." I said bitterly.
"That's just plain wrong, you shouldn't allow that. Go in there and tell him what he's doing is wrong, if you're too scared I can tag along for support." He sounded furious.
I really wish I could but, "I signed the contract already."
There was no word from him, we both stared at the sky in silence.
"Avery?"
I didn't need to look to know who it was. "Speak of the the devil."
"What are you doing here?" He strolled to where I was sitting and yanked me up. "And who is this man?"
"I don't know," I confessed, "I met him outside, you were too busy with your ex. I needed an escape, tell me is that so wrong?" It took everything in me to keep myself from crying.
"Are you jealous right now?" He questioned.
"Well aren't you?" That's the only explanation for his actions right now but he might be too chicken to admit it.
Anger rose in his eyes, "I ought to teach you a lesson."
I boldly challenged him, unafraid and oozing confidence, daring him to unleash his worst upon me. “Did you just talk back at me?” His eyes grew darker with each word, as if he couldn't fathom the audacity of my defiance. Sober, I might have cowered and shown respect, but the alcohol flowing through my veins banished any trace of fear."Why am I not allowed to express myself? Or do you wish to transform me into a mindless puppet?" I fearlessly retorted. He blinked back, utterly speechless, unable to comprehend my boldness."You have quite the nerve," he sneered, believing that my newfound status as something more than a mere maid had changed nothing. "You still work for me, and I can easily dismiss you if your work displeases me."I threw my head back and laughed, refusing to take his threat seriously. "You and I both know it's not that simple to get rid of me, considering the circumstances we find ourselves in. Whether you like it or not, Cameron, you're stuck with me forever."As we
"Why have you only just returned now?" Gina's voice echoed in my ears the moment I crossed the threshold.Cameron paid no attention to her and continued working. Clearly, the question was not meant for him, but for me.I held back from sighing. Wasn't it obvious that Cameron and I went out? Undoubtedly, she was well aware of this fact. Yet, she seemed determined to make things difficult for me, which shouldn't come as a surprise."You're a mother," she snapped, noticing my lack of response. "You should start acting like one. You left your two kids behind and went out to party. You should be ashamed of yourself. Look at the time you're coming back home."She walked over to where I stood and sniffed the air. Instantly, her hand shot up to cover her nose, and she gave me a disgusted look. "I can even smell alcohol on you. How irresponsible can you get?"Last time I checked, drinking wasn't illegal. I'm no longer a minor. I couldn't help but wonder what the actual problem was here. Was th
As per usual upon awakening, Cameroon was nowhere to be discovered. I had grown accustomed to this, so I didn't let it bother me too much. With a yawn, I rose from my bed and proceeded to change into my morning attire. Descending the stairs, I entered the kitchen in search of sustenance. For some inexplicable reason, I awoke that morning with an insatiable hunger.I found myself in the kitchen, devouring a sandwich, when Blair stormed in with a scowl etched upon her face. "First thing in the morning and you're already on a food hunt. I wonder if you were deprived of nourishment as a child," she sneered.Choosing to ignore her snide comment, I continued to quietly consume my sandwich. I lacked the energy to engage in an argument, especially not this morning. Blair seemed frustrated by my lack of response and forcefully shoved me aside as she walked past. However, even this act failed to elicit a reaction from me.Coming to a halt, she turned to face me. "By the way, I hope you haven't
Furious, Gina's question halted me in my tracks. Did she not realize that I was not wanted here? Yet, I was forced to remain still and endure their nonsense. How is any of this fair?Silently, I returned to my seat and she nodded in approval. A few chuckles filled the air, and I hung my head in embarrassment.I overheard someone mention that she was once a maid of this family. "You are kind enough to have accepted her as your daughter-in-law," they said. “I couldn't imagine my mother tolerating it. Gina, you are a good woman.”Internally, I rolled my eyes at the remark. Good woman, my ass. If it weren't for Cameron threatening to leave, she would never have agreed to this marriage. Even now, her daughter and she were actively trying to push me out and make my life a living hell. They were probably aware of it, but since I was once a maid, nobody gave a damn. I was lucky enough to have been accepted into the family. The rest of breakfast passed peacefully, with me being shoved to the s
“Pardon me-” I was on the verge of raising my objections until I found myself face to face with none other than the very woman I had spotted with Cameron at the recent party, Helen or whatever her name was. It caught me off guard, but I swiftly regained my composure, carefully selecting my words.Yet, before I could utter a single syllable, she parted her lips and accused me of having a penchant for pilfering what rightfully belonged to her. I knew exactly what she was alluding to, but no matter how incensed I felt, I struggled to rein in my anger."You can keep the dress," I offered, turning away to make my exit. However, she grasped my arm, preventing my departure. I slowly lifted my gaze, meeting her eyes, and within them, I detected an intense yearning."What about returning what you've snatched from me?" she confidently declared, raising an eyebrow.Shrugging off her touch, I stood tall. "Madam, I have not stolen a thing from you. In fact, I don't even know who you are. As for th
The expression etched on his face conveyed everything I needed to understand. As he parted his lips to speak, a sudden, sharp knock on the window shattered my attention. I turned to the side, only to discover Helen standing there with an air of pride. Naturally, I had no choice but to step out, causing her to take a step back upon seeing me. Cameron trailed behind me, arrogantly pushing me aside as if I were inconsequential. He reached for Helen's hand and apologized for the unfortunate incident between her and me. Saying I must have mistaken Helen for some random woman at the store, Cameron assured her that he had spoken to me and resolved the matter. "History won't repeat itself, will it, darling?" he questioned, and I could do nothing but nod in response. However, Helen interjected, asserting that a mere apology was not enough. She insisted that Cameron witness the way his wife had spoken to her, all because she desired the same dress. Meanwhile, Helen had been the one to lay her
My ears reached their breaking point, unable to bear another word. I stood my ground, refusing to yield to their demands. I declared that I would not apologize to this woman, for I am not at fault. I firmly believe I have done nothing to be sorry for. They cannot bully me into agreeing to something I did not do. I will not apologize, and that is my final decision."What did you just say?" He questioned, but his words felt more like a threat. Despite this, I refused to let it affect me. "You heard me right, dear husband. Since our marriage is merely a facade and you have no qualms admitting it in front of others, you shouldn't be so bothered. After all, we are only together for the sake of the children."He appeared utterly dumbfounded, as if he couldn't fathom that those words came from me. Honestly, I couldn't believe it myself. I don't know where this courage has come from. Perhaps it's the way she stares at me with a smug grin on her face, or the audacity with which she shamelessly
In a matter of moments, we arrived home without a word. I stepped out of the car, expecting to be left to my own devices. But to my surprise, Cameron followed closely behind, grabbing my hand and forcefully guiding me inside. I didn't resist, knowing exactly what awaited me. Rather than dread the experience, I found myself anticipating it, much to his satisfaction. He believed this to be an appropriate form of punishment, little did he know, I was beginning to enjoy and look forward to it.As soon as we entered, Gina blocked our path, demanding to know where I had been. Before I could respond, Cameron dismissed her with a wave of his hand and continued on. I witnessed the shock ripple through her chest as he brushed past. She screamed, calling him crazy for his lack of attention towards his own mother, but he paid her no mind. He dragged me up the stairs, locking the door behind us, his eyes burning into me with a menacing glare. I didn't need to be told what to do; I immediately bega
