Chapter 4

Frozen, Kate gulped.

She mentally tried to recall of she actually covered her neck with the foundation and when she remembered she did, she became a bit calm. Although she was shaking inside, the whole of her inside was doing summersault, trying to make her look as guilty as possible but she remained calm.

Some part of her wondered how Lucas had known that it was a hickey no matter how she tried to hide it but she didn't dare to ask. She maintained her straight face, not making him see any bit of her panicking emotions.

Coward!

Whenever she finds herself in a situation like that, all Kate knew how to do best was stay silent. Not as if she had anything useful to say or she could even try to defend the truthful accusations.

"How do you feel, Kate?" Lucas asked.

Again, Kate remained silent.

She then began to cover the side where she had the neck with her hair. The long blonde hair covered half of her shoulder, down one of her breasts to the side of her waist.

"Just imagine, imagine your mother hears that her precious angel had been messing around" he paused.

His gaze locked with Kate for a while before walking to the mirror. He looked at his reflection and all he did was smile, frown, and smile again.

"The moment that woman hears about it, the media is going to record a murder case from our family," He said to her but his gaze still homed on his reflection.

Rubbing her sweaty palms together, Kate thought about closing the door. If anyone passes by and hears it, big trouble for her. Big trouble for the ten years she had been a good girl and followed whatever her mother made her follow.

For ten years she had been that perfect daughter, coping, doing, and making anything her mother wanted her to do.

Mentally, she was already wailing, begging her younger brother not to do anything about it or tell her mother. She wouldn't know how to face it, was she receiving physical punishment or what?

Meeting Seth had been the most rebellious thing she had ever done in her either life and telling he mother?

"I thought your mother said you are well-behaved, legitimate, and..." Lucas eyed her "and perfect. Perfect?" He asked.

Although he was asked no one but Kate nodded.

She fumbled with her nails as she thought of biting them. The fact that she fixed them some days ago messed up her chewing plan.

"Are you perfect?" Lucas asked.

Kate again, couldn't say anything.

Her watery eyes roam around the room as she moved back. She was moving back to match Lucas's step as he walked towards her with a sick smile on his face. He surely seem to enjoy that agony on her face as he searched his pocket.

Under Kate's intense gaze, he brought out a lighter, then a pack of cigarettes. He removed the seal nylon and took out a stick. He placed it in between his fingers for more than required as he moved another step towards Kate.

"Do you think I should tell on you?" He asked.

Seeing her silence wasn't helping and it was obvious that he had the upper hand.

"Just kidding" Lucas busted into laughter.

It wasn't funny and his idiotic laugh could tell but Lucas continue laughing. He stared dead into Kate's eyes and watched the way she moves away from him, shaking like a wet chicken!

"I won't do anything to you, Kate, trust me" he winked.

With that, he walked to the door.

The sound of him trying to flick the lighter could be heard but no smell of cigarettes and Kate was grateful for that.

Although, she wasn't sure of her fate. She wasn't sure if Lucas would want to use it and nag about her some other time, all she knew at that point was that she was free. Only for that moment.

She would make sure to watch her back, check everything well, and make sure not to come across Lucas as much as possible.

She went back down to see if she could get the end I'd her father's birthday but she didn't find many visitors around. The ones around just had that grave expression while they take pictures with expensive statues from their house. Some just drank and watch her like a hawk.

At first, she feared that Lucas might have come to broadcast her worst fear but no, it was her parents.

She could hear their loud voices, yelling at each other while they both claimed to be right. If they both could be right, why then this disgraceful behavior?

Her father's birthday; was a mess.

Her parents; always quarreling just like that moment.

Her secret; laying mercilessly at the hands of her household enemy!

"Can't I just have enough?!" Kate smiled.

She wasn't crying, at least not yet.

She just has it in mind that she would cry and she should be prepared.

She braced herself for the worst when she saw her father walk out in rage. She knew his birthday for that year was officially over when he walked out the door and slammed the door as hard as possible.

Before heading back to bed, Kate made sure to sneak as many snacks and coke into her room. Stuffing her mouth while she watched, she thought about another worst case of her mother finding her with this much sugar.

She would say Kate was supposed to be as skinny as possible so she would be as light as a feather for her ballet.

Things went past and soon, it was time for school. Dressing up and having her mother drop her, Kate went straight into practice under the gaze of her mother.

Moving elegantly, letting all her problems rest on her big toe, Kate spun around. She closed her eyes, feeling the warm breeze on her face as she tried to forget all her problems.

It was working!

Bit by bit, she forgot about her family. She was in school and won't be seeing them for a while. All she just needed to do was forget them till she goes back. About Lucas and his scary smirk. She forgot about her innocent cowardness. She forgot about her lazy thought of reckless and fearful rebelliousness and Seth...

"So you are here?"

Opening her eyes, Kate met the angry gaze of Seth. She looked around and realized how lost she had been in her own world.

"I sent you messages, Kate! I fvcking messaged you and you ignored them?" Seth snapped.

His glares shot fired as he too a step toward Kate.

"Tell me why you have been ignoring me?" He asked.
