Drive Home

Lucas ended up ordering for me after asking me a couple of questions about what I liked and didn’t like. I had been nervous about what they would bring me but I was pleasantly surprised by the fish and asparagus cooked in a butter sauce that was sat in front of me. Lucas had ordered something similar that came with pasta.

“So what are your plans now that you are home?” he asked me.

I took a bite of my fish looking up at him shrugging before I sat my fork down, “I don’t know honestly. My plan is to move here to the City but first I have to find a job that will pay enough for me to live here, or at least drive back and forth.” I looked up, “so, I guess time will tell.”

Lucas took a sip of his drink, “I actually know of an office where they are looking for a secretary. I could set you up an interview if you want.”

Looking up at him I saw his dark eyes watching me, “I would appreciate it but I don’t want you...”

He shook his head, “I’m sure you’re ready to move out from your parents anyways right?”

I nodded, God he didn’t know how badly I was ready to move. Cody was driving me insane. We ate the rest of our meal making small talk. The food was amazing and when our bill came he just pulled out his card not even bothering to look at how much it cost.

As we headed back to the tattoo shop I looked over at him, “so if you're taking me home where are you going while I get my tattoo.”

He looked over at me and gave me a little smirk, “oh I’ll be around don’t worry.”

I made a face at him but found myself laughing at him as he grinned over at me. There was something wild and dangerous about him and even though something screamed at me to stay far away from him it only made me want to be closer. Sighing I knew that was my problem with men in general, I always went after the bad ones. I had a thing for bad boys and Lucas Blake screamed bad boy.

When we arrived at the shop Lucas didn’t wait he just lead me to the back. I opened my mouth to say something about checking in but he led me to one of the rooms where Xander was waiting on us. Looking up at me Xander motioned for me to sit, “I have an idea of what you want. I always put my own spin on things. You cool with that?” I nodded at him as he sat down. “I figured black and maybe a little white. Did you want color?”

Shaking my head no I looked up at him, “no that’s what I wanted.”

Nodding he pulled out a marker, “shoulder blade right?” When I nodded at him he told me to turn sideways in the chair and he began to draw a design on my skin. Minutes later he handed me a mirror to see what he drew. I had to stand up to use the wall mirror but I was happy with what he drew. It was rough but I knew it was just an outline. As I sat back down he reached down and begun opening the things he needed.

Xander had me sit in his chair sideways leaned over onto the armrest that he moved up. As the tattoo gun came to life I glanced up at Lucas finding him watching me. I held my breath until the gun touched my skin. It was a feeling that I couldn't describe, it didn’t hurt too bad but it wasn’t pleasant.

Lucas watched me for a few seconds before he came to sit beside me. I smiled at him gratefully as he grabbed my free hand and squeezed. I don’t know how long the actual tattooing lasted it seemed like it took forever but when it was done it felt like it had only taken minutes. Lucas sat with me through it all only leaving once to answer a call.

When Xander was done he wiped it down and let me look in the mirror to see the final results as he went over how to care for it. Xander told me to come back in a couple of weeks for him to look at it to see if it but he didn’t think he would have to go over anything.

I grinned looking in the mirror, “I love this.” Turning around I looked over at him, “how much do I owe you?”

Xander shook his head looking up at Lucas, “no charge, just take care of it.”

I opened my mouth to protest wondering if Lucas had paid him under the table but before I could speak Lucas spoke, “I better get her home. I’ll see you next week.”

Xander nodded walking with us to the door, “let me know if anything changes.” I looked up at Lucas confused but he only nodded leading me out the shop and into the night.

It was dark as we left the shop. Lucas had turned his music on low and when we were out of the worst of the traffic he held out his hand. “Give me your phone.”

I looked over at him handing it over unsure about his motives but too shocked he asked to question it. He cut his eyes at me laughing, “Taylor unlock it so I can put my number in your phone.”

Feeling like an idiot I grabbed my phone unlocking it and handed it back. He quickly typed in his name and number before handing it back to me. “Text me so I have your number.”

Nodding I had no idea what to text so I sent him a simple “hey, it’s Taylor.”

He looked over, “I’ll call you in a few days about the interview.”

I nodded looking out the window, I should have guessed that’s why he wanted my number. I didn’t need to get in a relationship anyway my last one had been full of lies and betrayal. I came home from work early one day and found my boyfriend in between my best friend's legs. I left for home the next day.

Without realizing it I let out a deep breath just thinking about it. Lucas glanced over at me. “You ok?”

I shrugged, “just a lot on my mind tonight.”

He reached out grabbing my hand, “I don’t know what happened before you moved down here but bad things do fade.”

I nodded looking up at him, “I hope so.”

Lucas squeezed my hand, “I mean look how badass you’ve become in a week. Got all tatted up and you just went to lunch with a stranger.”

Laughing I leaned back feeling better, “whatever I still have a long way to go. I need to find a gym, cut my hair....”

Lucas shook his head, “you’re not cutting your hair.”

I looked up at him, he had said almost like a command but he was playing, right? I chose to ignore him, “well a gym for sure.”

He looked over at me, “I’ll send you an address, it’s in the city but you’ll be there soon anyway when you move.”

I smiled at him, “so if I get this job you going to find me an apartment too?”

Lucas looked over at me seriously, “yes.”

I bit my lip before laughing, “thanks for today Lucas, I really needed it.”

He nodded at me as he turned down my street, I was kinda bummed that the drive had flown by. As he pulled up he looked around and I assumed he was looking for Cody’s truck.

Leaving his car running he opened his door. I unbuckled and by the time I opened my door he was there helping me out. He seemed tense as he looked around again.

I looked up at him, “He is gone, left with some girl yesterday.” Lucas didn’t say anything but he seemed to relax. I gave him a small smile, “I’m assuming it would be better for me not to mention tonight to him.”

Lucas walked up to me pressing me against the car as he kissed me. His kiss caught me off guard and it took my breath away. “I wouldn’t but it’s up to you. I’ll call or text you later.”

I nodded feeling the loss of his arms as soon as he released me. I had to make myself walk up my carport to the door. Hearing his door shut I expected him to leave but he waited until I was inside the door before I saw him backing out.

I leaned against the door as I shut it. I wasn’t ready for him, I already knew the type of guy he was. He for some reason found me entertaining today but when he was done he’d toss me to the curb. I had nothing to offer him.

Walking to my room I looked at myself in the dresser mirror. The girl looking back at me had no answers to why we had grabbed Lucas Blake’s attention tonight. Shrugging I decided not to tempt the fates, I needed a distraction and he was definitely a distraction. I debated about looking him up on Facebook but to do that I would have to reactivate mine and I wasn’t about that tonight.
