Devastated

Helen's POV

"The doctor will see you now," A smartly-dressed young nurse said and promptly took her leave before I could utter a word.

My heart jubbered in my ribs in anxiety as I shakily stood up from the bench.

"You are worrying again," Lucy uttered, taking my hand into hers. "Everything will be fine, my friend. I'm sure of it."

In response, I managed to dart her a lopsided smile as we walked down the hallway to the doctor's office.

Two days had passed since Ethan was admitted in the hospital and diagnosed with aplastic anemia.

And in those two days, I had only eaten and taken my bath once, and even the food had been a slice of bread and a bottle of soda, nothing more.

In all honesty, Lucy had forced me to perform both tasks because she knew that if she hadn't, I would have remained glued to Ethan's bedside checking on him every second.
