Waiting

The room was dark and the wind from the unlocked windows was cold as it wafted across her skin. Denise hadn’t moved an inch from where she laid on the hard floor, with her body curled in, her arms hugging herself and a chilling emptiness surrounding her. She stayed there silently with her eyes glued to the empty ceiling above her and her ears focused on the rushed movements she heard outside mixed in with the loud chatterings from the pack.

Amongst them, she could smell Kain nearby and she could easily single out his voice from the others as he spat demands at everyone. Unfortunately, he hadn't gone far and with the sudden chaos, tonight was not the best moment for her to make her move. But it didn’t matter to her, for she knew her time would soon come…at midnight tomorrow.

The thought of staying for another day made her skin crawl. She really couldn’t take it anymore; her stupid feelings, her family, her mate and herself. She didn’t even want to allow herself to think of the future
