Instead of directly answering Everette, I muttered, “I don’t need you right now or any moment in my life.”

I shifted my attention towards the darkness and closed my eyes. I still had no plans of entering the house any moment from now. I wanted to cool down my head so that I could sleep directly the moment I hit my bed.

I felt him dragging something. Maybe a chair. There were vacant ones a little meters away.

“Go away, Everette. I want to be alone.”

“You need company.”

“I will be the one to tell you that. Shoo.”

“It’s not always good to be independent. You need others in your life, Tina,” he reminded.

“I don't need anyone,” I insisted.

My brother ran away. My parents did not know how to share their affections so I was forced to do everything on my own.
