Chapter 61

Earl was back before Laurel woke up that afternoon, but that didn't mean she didn't notice he had gone. He had excused himself from her and she had let him go only because Astrid was styling her hair, for which he was grateful himself because her scent alone was driving him mad.

"Did you find her?" Gregg asked when Earl found him in the field, training with a few soldiers.

"Yes."

"Well, what did she say?"

Earl sighed, "She says that Charles will try coming back as a friend to Laurel, get close and get information from there or whatever it is they plan to do."

Gregg looked thoughtful, "He hasn't shown up yet so that must be good."

"Then you believe her?"

Gregg shrugged, "I guess we have to take the chances. It's the only shot we have at being one step ahead of the rogues."

Earl nodded and stood there, looking thoughtful for a while. Something else was bugging his mind and he didn't even know why it did. He sighed, if Charles decided to come close, he could easily kill him
