29|Unexpected Invitation

The trip from the city where I work to my parent's house wasn't long, only about five hours if the traffic was smooth. Therefore, there were no significant obstacles to coming to visit on weekends. Anyone could come back on Sunday night so they could work on Monday.

But this man was beyond my expectations. I met him for the last time in the hospital, sitting up in bed. I couldn't imagine how tired he must have been to travel five hours by car. Let alone standing in front of me.

“Who's there, Camari?” asked Mom, who was following behind me. “Oh! Angus!? What are you doing there? Come on, get in. Camari, why don't you let our guests in?”

Grandpa chuckled. “She must be surprised to see me.”

“Grandpa, the doctor will be furious that you traveled so far a few days after surgery,” I protested.

“I know my body best, not the doctor,” he argued. He entered the house while being led by Niccolo. “I'm hungry. What do you cook, Cara? Is there any food left for me?”
