First Dance Drizella

The music faded and everyone applauded the dancers. Even with the roar of applause, our eyes never left each other.

The next song began, it was 'The Blue Danube', my personal favorite, a classic.

The handsome guard put his hand out and asked me "May I have this dance?"

I hesitated, looking at his hand extended to me I thought of the feeling I had when the footman had given me his hand to exit the carriage. I didn't want him to stop for some reason. 'Have I been longing for a man's touch so much that the slightest thing sends electricity through my body?' I thought to myself and felt pathetic. Yet here is a man who doesn't just want to hold my hand, but put his hand on my back and dance. The thought alone gave me goosebumps and I grabbed his hand with a smile and nod. Apparently, my voice wasn't working. He placed my hand in his arm and escorted me to the dance floor.

I couldn't keep my eyes off of him as we walked. Then it dawned on me; are guards allowed to leave their post and dance with guests? If not, this man could get in a lot of trouble for this. Why was he risking his job just to dance with me?

I always thought The Blue Danube was more appropriate for ballerinas, with its orchestra and the flow of the music, the flowing movement of a trained ballerina would be more appropriate than a promenade, but I didn't certainly didn't mind the closeness.

I put my right hand in his and my left hand on his shoulder and adjusted my posture to his. He was a good six to eight inches taller than me at least, so I had to look up to make eye contact with him and blushed every time I did.

Luckily I knew my basic box step dance, but my heart was pounding in my chest and my brain was so focused on this handsome man in front of me that I didn't even hear the music.

'Okay focus, Driz. Don't make a fool of yourself now. Focus on the steps. Left foot forward, right foot sweep, together. Right foot back, left foot sweep, together. One two three, one two three, one two three, one two three,' I couldn't help but smile as our bodies moved as one and I saw him grinning at me with the same thought.

He started making his strides wider and wider, and as result, we started spinning all around the dance floor until we were the only ones left. Just as I was getting used to his open strides, he brought his arm out to twirl me. I heard my dress whoosh with the movement just like it had before we left the house and I couldn't help but giggle with glee.

The song started slowing down and our steps became softer and our bodies got closer when our eyes met again.

Everyone in the room started applauding and the sound brought me back to my senses. I realized then that I was breathing heavily from so much adrenaline.

"Hi... I'm... I'm Drizella" I said between breaths as the applause faded.

"Nice to meet you, Drizella. My name is Peter." He introduced himself while bowing to me. Still holding my hand, he kissed it as he came back up and said "Thank you for the dance" with a smile that made me melt. I curtseyed to him in response and we walked back into the crowd of people.

"Driz!" I heard my sister yell at me.

I looked over my shoulder for her when she grabbed my hand and got her face close to mine and whispered "Who's the hunk? That dance was so magical!"

"Oh," I smiled, "That's Peter," I looked back for him but he was gone. "Did you see where he went, Ana?" I asked.

"No I wasn't watching him, I'm sorry." She said with sincerity.

I sighed while browsing around and couldn't find him. I turned back to Ana who was looking at me with a sweet smile that begged me to give her details. I laughed and told her "Oh my gosh, Ana. It was amazing."

"Well it looked amazing!" she exclaimed.

"Thank you haha I didn't stumble at all, did I?  I kind of blacked out from the world for a while there," I asked nervously.

"Oh no no no, you two moved flawlessly together!" She assured me with a smile. "Driz, I have never seen you glow like this! Do you think he's the one?" She leaned into me with the last sentence.

"What?! 'The one'? Are you serious Ana?"

"Yes! Oh if only you could see your face as you looked at him. I told you, you are a smitten kitten," she giggled.

I sighed as she said this. She was right, I was completely smitten with him, and I couldn't wait to see him again.
