I was feeling really anxious and nervous as I approached Heather. I had never asked her for any favors before, but now I was desperate and I needed her help. My heart was pounding as I tried to find the right words to say.

“Heather,” I began hesitantly. “I don’t know how to say this to you, but I don’t think there’s any better way to say it. As you know, I haven’t been paid for the past three months. So, I haven’t been able to pay my rent to Biddy… I mean, your mom. I was just wondering if you could talk to her and ask her to give me a little more time… I swear on my dead grandma that I will pay her rent.”

Heather looked at me with shock and disbelief. “I…I don’t know what to say,” she stammered. “I’m sorry, but I can’t help you. You know how my mother is. She’s a miserly person who won’t lend a penny to anyone, not even her own daughter.”
