Out of the blue, my name echoed from behind. I spun around to find Lara navigating her way through the labyrinth of cubicles in my direction.

Her face was set in a stern expression, her eyebrows knitted together in a way that hinted at an impending reprimand. My heart plummeted. I never intended to be late, but the one day I was, it didn't escape attention.

"Lara," I acknowledged, striving to maintain an even tone. "Good morning."

She folded her arms across her torso, "Morning? It's nearly time for lunch. Would you care to justify your late coming?"

I gulped, "I... hit the snooze button one too many times. I apologize, it won't recur."

Lara exhaled, "Ensure that it doesn't. Timeliness is crucial in this workspace."

With that, she pivoted and was about to depart when she added, "Oh, and by the way," Lara turned back to face me, "Mr. Eden has been inquiring about you. This is the twelfth time he's asked about you since morning. I've been making excuses for you."
