Being outdoors became a necessity since it was the spring season and everything looked alive, except for me. It was almost half year since Ashton had left with his parents for their home in Cape Town. I managed to fulfil the promise we made to each other the night before he left but it was rather hard at times to fulfil it.
I said goodbye to Ashton when they left the house because I didn't have the solidity to get him to the airport without breaking down. We had not been together for long, I was hoping for more time together but life has its ways of depriving us of the things we really want in life. We would keep the promise to each other, always keeping in contact even though we couldn't meet much.
I spent most of my time outside the house with my friends, Mya and Brendan. Jack was always with me and my friends were smitten with him. Mya and Brendan knew how I was feeling ever since Ashton had left and they tried to keep my mind always occupied with someth
Composure was the new gnome in our lives, since having Ashton back in our daily lives seemed to be the main cure that got everyone hyped up all over again. Even Mya and Brendan seemed to be over the moon with how things turned out, turns out they were tired of having a more 'brooding Lina' day in and day out. It certainly felt great to have some calm in our lives again, not having to think of what to do to keep yourself busy from thinking about depressing events in our lives. The dangerous life we had been scared of more than half a year ago seemed to be a distant memory now. Having those kinds of dangers removed from our lives was relief that allowed us to have a normal life, apart from what we had to deal with in our private lives. Kyle Simpson had made us all keep our guards up at all times, more precautions were being taken so we wouldn't find ourselves in that kind of situation again.Ashton and his family had secured a big house with a large compound that allowed
Mya managed to gain conciousness as she was taken to one of the nurse rooms in the school. I explained she wasn't exposed to any fire or smoke, it was just shock that rendered her unconscious. So they took her for a check up in the nurse's office and let her rest. I explained what had happened to Ashton and that's how we found ourselves waiting for Jay and my dad after giving them a call about the incident. Most parents were called as the school was now disrupted by the incident that had happened. My dad and Jay arrived in one car as they were together at work when we called."Lina, what happened exactly?" My dad questioned the moment he got to us.We went to a distant area to discuss the issue, that's when I told them everything that had happened and how I had acted to help in the situation. To say they were flabbergasted was putting it lightly, they didn't even say anything for a while. They seemed to be pondering how to address the predicament we found oursel
After processing all they were told, my friends took to this whole thing like a fish to water. They accepted my being without any restrictions, Ashton as well. Our friendship grew even stronger without any prohibitions in our lives. We were able to have a prosperous senior year, prepared ourselves accordingly for the final exams. Although we were on the peak of exams commencing, there was always a tradition of having our matric dance before the exams started. Matric dance is like prom dance for other countries, we called it differently because it only happened when we were in our senior year, matric class. We had so much fun on the dance, no conflicts whatsoever, even though some of our classmates got inebriated during the party. Isabel had even tried her luck again with Ashton, where she ended up making a fool of herself in front of all our classmates. Although she was a bit tipsy, I hope she forgot abot the issue so the embarassment wouldn't follow her for th
Tranquility. One scene that has always been a part of me for as long as I can remember. School days were the worst because I was required to be among people, normal people. Why did I get to be different from others, is it a good thing or a bad thing, why is it just me? These were the kind of questions that were always running through my mind and I didn’t have answers to them. At least I had accepted my fate and I now live through it.Mya Montez didn’t mind being with me as others seemed to. She had been my friend since kindergarten and we’ve been very close since then. She knew that I mostly kept to myself and she knew that most people termed me a freak. But she didn’t know the exact things that led to me being like that. She knew that I don’t have a mother and that I lived with my father who’s a scientist. She had accepted me for what I am.Although some people looked at me and saw a kid from a
He looked like he just stepped out of a male fashion catalogue. No wonder there were a lot of thoughts shouting towards him, especially from the girls. He really did look good, like Mya had said. His face was a little pale but perfectly shaped. His hair had a little dark shade of brown and it was short and gelled up in a fancy way. His eyes were kind of onyx coloured but that wasn’t too much noticeable. And his mind, it was quiet but I could hear a little humming sound on the background of it.I could easily see that he wasn’t just human, just like me. But he wasn’t seeing me just yet.His looks were not exactly what caught my attention. He looked really familiar, like I had seen him somewhere not here. I tried probing my mind to figure out where I had seen him before but before I could figure it out Mr McCoy called the class to attention. He informed us that we’d be handing over the project on the following day
I went back downstairs after putting away my school stuff and went to the kitchen to help myself to something to eat before training.I practice every day so that I know how to control my superpowers and I also learn how to defend myself without using the powers. My dad said it’s good to know both ways so that I am ready for whatever tough situation I may get to face in life.So I started training after my dad woke me up as a new person. He told me that he wanted me to be like any other kids around and even go to school, but to do that I had to learn how to control my powers. So I learnt that at a young age and I got to go to school but I didn’t feel like other kids. I felt different and isolated. That’s when I met Mya, in kindergarten. My dad came in the kitchen to help himself to some lunch before we went to practice. He found me there.“So dad, do you remember the guy I told
Brendan seemed to be having an impatient aura around him. He really wanted to talk about the scene that happened on the previous day after we left school. I didn’t want to talk about it at all because I knew that I’d end up saying something I didn’t want to say. But for goodness’ sake I decided to let him start the issue, we might as well get it over and done with.I took off from his place but not in a very fast pace. I allowed him to take a breather.“So, how did you take it?” he started off by asking.“Take what?”“Oh come on, Lina. You know what I’m talking about”, he said rolling his eyes.“I didn’t take it at all. It’s not my place to take anything. For crying out loud, I’m not even friends with this guy so you really have to stop taking it that way.”“L
It took me a few seconds to notice that the thought came from Ashton. So one of his powers was to read minds, just like me. I noted that he didn’t know that I could read minds so I took him by surprise when I threw back a thought at him.It didn’t take me long to figure it out though, I thought.Lina? He asked.Yeah, who else could it be? I asked.Wow, so you can read minds huh? He tsk-ed in his mind.Just like you, I answered. But how? He asked, still surprised. If it weren’t for the lesson and the teacher in front of the class having a good view on all of us, Ashton would have turned around to look me in the eye and see if he wa
