10. No More Freedom

“Not that,” I mumbled, my body unconsciously taking a step back as I zoned out. There I was, surrounded by the bodies, the fire, the screams, the tears and blood on the faces of those around me, my calls for my family. Everything came rushing back and I could feel every inch of my body tremble.

“Stop,” I heard myself shout, closing my ears to drown out the sound of agony but they were coming in full force. My legs were weak but they refused to crumble because I was in a pool of blood, the blood of my people, of my Father's pack, my former pack.

“Lucienne!” Daniel's voice and a zap of the mate mark snapped me out of the past and I found myself mute, unable to hear his questions or answer them. Almost immediately, I was back at the scene and it was just me, standing in a pool of blood, hearing the cries of men and children, asking why I did it, asking why I took their happy life from them.
